I'd like input as to value if parted out
I am trying negotiate a deal on a group of 3 cars. I am really only interested in the engine and transmission of the 1977 ROW. The interior of it is trashed and there are a lot of rust spots developing on it. The other two cars will be part of the deal. One is a 1970 911t, pretty rusty, the interior is there, but pretty trashed. No engine or tranny. The other is a 1975s? sportmatic (darker green). The interior isn't too bad and the body is not too rusty. Has some damage to the real. No engine or tranny. Does anyone see any parts that may be desirable or worth anything? How about the wheels of the sportmatic? Seats of the t?

Dean,
There appears to be tons of useable parts on those cars. The wheels look to be the deep type Fuchs, hard to tell without a part# those would be worth a few bucks. There could be $10 to $12 thousand in total parts, and +-200 hours of work to strip, clean, photogragh, answer questions, package and ship, minus whatever you're paying for the cars. Maybe $25 per hr. when your all done 6mo. from now? Might be better to put in a little overtime at the office and just buy a nice motor. Sorry if this sounds a little discouraging but I'm just finishing parting out a car and it really is a lot of work. Matt |

I agree with Matt. There does look to be a substantial number of good parts in the collection -- but, don't underestimate the cost and time required to part out a car (let alone three). I parted out a SC not too long ago and it really became tiresome. In addition to the eyesore, getting all the parts you've got collected, cleaned, photo'd, etc, etc is a great deal of work. I have a plasma, air die grinders, body saws and a sawzall, and still found removing things like parcel tray, floor board, etc to be a hassle. Factor in time and materials to pack, driving to and from UPS or FedEx, and it can be a second job. Not trying to nix the idea, just want to provide a complete picture.
Good luck, T.

The wheels on the sportomatic are probably 14 x 5.5 (comfort package) with transmission order.

A thought occurred to me, could those wheels actually be from the other car? If they are the "deep" sixes, were they offered in 1975? The 911t is missing its wheels and I wonder if they were put on the 75 because it is in better overall shape.

They were available then as well, I have an early 70' matched date code set. Not worth a whole lot. If they are 15's that's a little different but there is quite a bit of curb rash just on that one wheel. |

I don't know yet, I am aiming at under $2000 I will start out offering $0 and go from there. Possibly a barter for some of my time. I am a commercial photographer. I really wont do this unless it is damn near free.

Hi Dean,
I still think the 77 restoration is your best bet as the body does have rust proofing and, even if it has some rust, it won't be near as bad as the other cars. Having said all that even if you get a few hundred for each rolling chassis and keep the 77 powerplant and trans, you come out with a free core engine and trans which has to be worth about 3 to 4 grand right there and no hassle of cutting up three shells.

I don't think any of them are really a candidate for restoration. The '77 is a lot worse than it looks. There is an inch of water sitting on the floor boards. Well, right now it's actually ice. I am just hopeful the engine is in desent shape. Engine bay is dirty, but owner seems to think it had been rebuilt at some point.

The way I look at parts car's if they have engine's and trans they are worth about a grand in that shape and 500.00 a piece for the other two there are some good parts there but then there is they look good till you get them out and realize they are just worn as the rest of the car.

Lots of junk there. I would only do it if I could get them for next to nothing or preferrably nothing at all. I also wouldn't get them unless I had a place arranged to haul off the junk corpses. I also wouldn't get them unless I had a place to work on them. If those three conditions existed, I'd take the easy, most saleable stuff off of them and haul the rest immediately to the junk yard. Like has been said before, it takes time & effort. These count up more than you think.

An inch of water means the floor is not leaking yet!
All seriousness aside, I've parted a few cars. Fun if you have adequate space and time. I own an old warehouse, so the space wasn't a problem until the company renting part of the warehouse needed to expand. I got rid of a bunch of stuff and moved the rest out to a smaller location that I own. Went from 3000 feet to about 1000. There is money to be made, but you will work for it. I'm already self-employed, and don't want what turned out to be more work. |

That 77 targa top looks like something I might like to have. How much? Seriously.

Lubemaster, are you sure?
![]() Marv, I agree with you completely. That is my game plan at this point. I think, I could leave the two worst cars were they are as I work on them. I have room for one at home.
