964 Twin Dist. On an SC
I have been told that you can not use a twin plug dist from a 964 on and SC engine.
Why? Thanks!

The SC distributor turns counter clockwise, the 964 distributor turns clockwise.
So yes, if you took the motor completely apart and replaced the distributor gear on the crank, you could use a 964 distributor. -Chris

OR, just install the wires in the opposite direction.

Two points of intrest.
First, the 964 dizzy does not have mechanical spark advance. The SC dizzy does. The guts from the SC mechanical advance has to be installed into the 964 case or some other form of spark advance needs to be used. Second, a sheet metal part is needed to be changed so the new dizzy(distributor) will fit. Don't remember the part number just know it needs to be done, and as was already said the drive gear on the crankshaft needs to be changed. Randy Jones 1971 911 "Iris" w/ converted 964 distributor. |

but why would you not just get the dizzy rebuilt to work correctly or use steves, jbracing ,jerry woods,or supertec's 12 plug dizzy. the jbracing I think being the cheapest @ about 1500 hundred. I don't think anyones else is any cheaper? or any option for that matter other then getting your MSII firing them

Megasquirt with dual Ford EDIS controllers. I was able to get the VR sensor, 2 EDIS modules and 2 coil packs for about $20 off of 2 '95 Aerostars at the local U-pick. All you need is a 36-1 wheel and an MS controller. Custom wires are almost the most expensive item unless you can make your own. Runs a very hot spark at >0.040 and with the later EDIS controllers and MS you have the option of lower RPM multispark.
