Tcar,
The guy doing the work is a one man shop off Wadsworth and I25. A friend (RichMink76) worked with him before he went into the paint business and we used his paint booth to paint his car..... here's how it turned out (my friend Rich did all the painting!). Update on my '76 He's doing some body work as well as paint and if it turns out good, I'd be happy to pass his name on. Craig

The look of the Euro CS is Very very nice...
I'd love to do the same to mine when I give her a new paint job later this spring...15+ years of painting I ought to at least be able to paint my own damn car for a change huh! lol! If anyone finds a stencil for the CSclubsport fender graphics please post that info.. They get away with "decals" for the sides but I don't think it's look correct on the fender tops, right? Beautiful just so Euro!!

Thanks, Craig.
I've seen Rich's car and it's beautiful. Also seen your CS. I'll keep up on this thread. Tom (Tcar) Quote:

Craig,
I am am planning a re-paint on my 80 Targa this spring. I will be getting on the prep work as soon as the weather warms some. If you are comfortable passing along a referral based on your results it would be most appreciated. thanks, Ed

Looks like a cool project. So what makes the CS a CS? Can you post links to info I can read. The little I think I know is that they were stripped down cars for the track sold from the factory... is that about right. I am sure they were much more than JUST that, but I would be interested in hearing more about them...
I agree that the fender graphic, painted or otherwise, looks cool...

Shane,
Send me your email address and I'll send the US CS Technik that highlights the changes in the US CS's. Craig

awesome car man!
Grand Prix white is an excellent choice for any P-car. I have always liked that color because it has a hint of green to it and looks lovely with a funky green interior. I have a white one and I may just go that route with mine. keep on going dude! |

Just a quick update on the trim painting. I blasted, primed and painted all of the trim with the exception of the door frames. Blasting definately helped prepare the surface so the XIM bonder and SEM trim paint has gone on well.
![]() ![]() ![]() The door frames are next. I cannot blast them so I used a detail sander to try to rough up the chrome.....time will tell if this is adequate. ![]() ![]() If anyone has experience painting chrome....please share it with me

Have you checked with your local Automotive Paint supply store?
Back in the day when I was a journeyman painter for an AutoBody shop, we used a PPG Adhesion promotor... Painting Chrome is always risky, a lot depends on the quality of the chrome. IMHO: I would suggest prepping these chrome parts with 400grit wet sanding, etch prime (nasty green stuff) then apply your trim paint... The Etching primer will help not only adhesion but long term durability, and is a better product for painting over chrome than std. adhesion promotor..again IMO BTW Nice work!

I think you are going to have issues with the paint sticking to that chrome, with that light rough up job.
Did you check with any powdercoaters? You may be able to hand all that stuff in and get it done for $250 or so. Yeah, not super cheap, but will last forever (and you don't have to do any work!) |

911Freak, Carrman,
The XIM was recommended as a bonder/primer that would work on chrome but, I do have my reservations. Zeke on this forum indicated he used it and 5 years later all looked well. I did think about power coating but from what I have read from others who have gone that route is that the thickness on the window frame can lead to fitment issues with the glass. It's meant to be warm on Saturday, maybe I'll put more time into scuffing up the chrome with the finishing sander. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Nah, you won't have any fit issues with powdercoating. I've done it before, it's not a problem.
I know you are a ways down the road with painting the trim, and this is a track car, but IMO you should give a couple of powdercoaters a call. You have everything off the car already, now is the time to do it right. Here in So. Cal., I know all those pieces could be done for $250 or less. If your local prices are the same, I think you should really consider it. Just drop it all off as it is, pick it up a week later and it'll look great forever. You are going to have some chipping with the paint, esp. on the door frames, where people wearing rings open and close the doors by the frame, you sometimes close it with keys in your hand, etc. Your car is going to look great with its new paint, etc. Do the trim right! |

Craig, if you're looking for a local powder coater, try Denver Bumper over by Eisenbuds. It has been highly recommended and I've been impressed by the work that I've seen. Just don't drop your stuff off before Friday so I have a chance to get my suspension parts in the queue before you.

Chuck, for what it's worth, I sanded frames and painted with Rust-oleum (9999?) Satin Black about 6 years ago.
Last time I saw the car it was perfect, on a daily driver that's outside a lot... In the sun in Denver. Also, you said the painter was near I-25 and Wadsworth. Got out my map and Ouija equipment, but can't get them to intersect... ![]() Perhaps I-70 & Wads? Last edited by tcar; 02-27-2008 at 01:01 PM.. |

Picky picky....... yep, I70 and Wads would get you there. I called the painter today hoping for some good news and got "yep, I'm progressing well". That proabably means he started

I talked to the painter on Friday. We assumed that the last paint job was done well...prep/primer etc. He told me that he had found many areas where the 2nd paint job was applied without adequate prep. So, he's at least a week and a half out from finishing since he's spending more prep time. Not what I wanted to hear but I'd rather wait and have a good end result.
I painted the door frames and door handles....all went well. Hopefully he'll finish before the wife and kids go away for Spring break. If I miss that window of opportunity, it will definitely take me longer to get it all back together.
