Well all the years of owning this thing it got it's first piggy back ride due to inop status.
Spent the weekend looking at another car and drove this thing to do the running. It had an idle like it never had before, lumpy and coming to a stop it would drop to say 400 RPM's even died twice. I wrote it off as only burning 9 gallons of fuel this year so far and kept driving. On the way home it stalled and shut down at speed, I dumped the clutch and it fired back up. A mile later same thing same result so I was trying to baby it home, no such luck dead and no life again. Had fuel so ran home and grabbed an extra coil, ran through some electrical tests and determined it would have to get a piggy back ride.
I had to pull the front bumper to clear the flat bed.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534189939.JPG

So I immediately blamed the 30 something year old CDI box(didn't even troubleshoot it) and went to Summit and bought a MSD unit and Coil. Wired it up and fired right back up. It has a bouncy Tach but wow what an improvement, even pulled my linkage loose on the test drive out hammering it. Seems to have more torque and quicker throttle response so if you have been on the fence do that upgrade.

I did manage to add my other forever car. This 911 will be in the will unless something happens prior but my intent is to never let it go. I have had a ton of cars and even up to last week had a Boat, BMW2002, BMW e21 and first gen Dodge Cummins loading our driveway up, the COuntry club probably loved that. I decided time was now and sold all of them and had this red thing delivered. So both should now be my forever cars.

Ha yeah I weighed everything, Engine out service is no joke on it but I am prepared (I hope). It has 25K miles so it was as close to new as I could afford.

Holy cow

is that TB or just a red top? That is really great!

I have an exotic coming to the house in a few weeks. Not as cool as yours but I think the same year. Nor worries though as its british - they never break :-)

Why would you worry about an engine out? You will be doing that in your garage!

Not so sure, that cam timing looks scary. I do think I can handle the rest.

It is a TB, it had to be a TB I looked all over and almost imported one from Canada due to the exchange rate, I checked out several TS's but did not like how the lines looked broken.

What is the Brit?

You could buy an old GM 4 cylinder engine to set in the corner of the garage and tell everyone that you have the most perfect Fiero to Ferrari kit car in the world! Who knows, maybe the word would get out and discourage thieves from stealing it! Nice car! I have always liked that particular body style. Enjoy!

Ha what I am finding over on the Ferrari boards is they treat those who put 360 wheels on 348's almost the same as a kit car owner so I may get the 4cy because I am certainly putting those 360 wheels on it forum be dam.

You might not need to pull the engine for servicing the belts, etc. If I remember correctly, there are plastic inner fender liners that will come out thus allowing access to the front of the sideways mounted engine. You would still need the proper tools to lock the engine down while the belt(s) are off but that should not break the bank!

I think that is for 308/328. I can't imagine you can get the pulley off this motor that close to the firewall.

When I bought my new car a few months ago, I pretty much had my pick of the litter and looked at a few Ferrari's but the MX scared me too much. You're braver than me.. lol. Great looking ride though!

Elombard 08-16-2018 05:27 AM

Marc

What is your new car?

rattlsnak 08-16-2018 09:21 PM

Sent you a PM.

Swapped the rims on it to piss off the purists.

Those rims look much better to me. I never liked the weird convex rims on the first abs equipped Ferraris in the 80’s.

I always wondered why some people get so worked up over styling changes on other people’s vehicles.
