There was no big ordeal in getting the paint of the trim on the drivers side. I started with Lacquer thinner and got nervous about it being so close to the paint, so I took a bondo spreader and the paint flaked off. It could use some polishing to make it look nicer.

Finally an update with some pictures.
I had to replace the windsheild after the debacle on trying to switch trim on both of my cars. I must have been extremely lucky (hard to imagine with how things have went with this car) as the windsheild install was a breeze, did it by myself in about 20 minutes. While the glass was out I painted the lip that the windsheild mounts in so it is good to go for a while.

I also decided to dye the interior to black from cork since I recovered the dash.

And to finish last week, I installed a new muffler I got from V8 Ranch from the board here.



More to come. The fender hunt has just stalled and it will probably look like this most of the summer.

wow the dye job looks awesome? Does it look that good in person? Did you do a write up on the process?

The H4s just absolutly transform the car for me! I like how the stripped trim and stuff came out. Still think you should pull the rockers since you are going to do some paint work any way but it looks FAB!

I think I will own a 911 again next week! Its a project and I may need some help on the windshield!

Thanks for the compliments, the interior looks pretty good IMO I was suprised. The doors look great, the rear panels do have a couple of "dry" looking spots that I have no idea what made them do that, but for now it works for me. I did not document the color change as I had seen several posts here and followed their advice.
On the windsheild I found on here that it was easier to go around the gasket with the rope two times and that made it easy to do because it really did not want to lay all the way down the first time around.

It looks as though the steering wheel wrap has changed as well? It's beautiful now.
Did you do that and was it one of the kits?

I recovered the wheel with one of the kits from our host. ALGA or Allan Gunn was the name of it i think.

Fenders are paid for and should be here in a couple of weeks at most. Car has just been sitting as I have been in the road all week.
If anyone reads and knows this answer help me out. I did a search and not much came up.
If you use the rubber ties for the hood on a Short hood to long hood conversion, does the mount for the straps mount to the bumper? Just curious as I see so many with FG bumpers and I am certain I will go that route.

I will reply to it Doug. In that pic the bottom of it is not bolted down, so there is no resistance at all. Is that what you are pointing out?

I have a question about stripping off the black of the window trim - what exactly is bondo spreader? Is it a chemical? Where can you get it? Did you have to remove the trim, or did you leave it on the car while you stripped it? And finally, would you have been able to do the windshield if you hadn't ordered a new bright trim surround? I am thinking about doing this to my car as well. Great work!

Bondo Spreader= Probably another more offical name but- It is just a plastic spreader. Sort of like a scraper they use to flaten sheetrock mud but pretty flimsy. Not a chemical but something easier on the metal than a screw driver or such.

I left the trim on the car around the windows. I taped off the paint and went at it. I did use a tiny flat head screw driver with some tape on it to flake off the small edge on the rear window.

You might can do the windshield trim without removing BUT I would not remove the trim and expect to put it back in without pulling the windshield out.
You would have to tape it off or use some playing cards (putting them in between the trim and rubber to protect the rubber)to allow you to get the paint off.

Not entirely sure about a perfect match, that new trim nearly glows. It could use some polishing.

I saw cnielsen's article in Excellence stating he stripped his trim and polished it on his ST so I gave it a try.

I will focus more time on it and see if I can get it to stand out more and post the results

Oven cleaner slowly dissolves the anodizing...then lots of sanding and eventuall a full polish...if that is what you are looking for.

Yup... or you could use the special backdate fiberglass longhood made by 2 different people on the board, that lets you install a longhood that has the backing of a short one, and therefore keeps your SC hood catch. The catch is more theft proof than the rubber straps ! I've got TRE's, it seems nice, I'll share more info when it's actually test fitted. I'm repairing my early fenders for now... not there yet...
