New Mechanic........No more leaks!!!

Well I finally had enough of the drips on the garage floor. Oil return tubes were leaking about 1 drop a night. Then they started leaking 2 drops a night. I went out of town for 2 weeks and came home to a small river of oil on the floor. Time to get it fixed. I enlisted the help of my newest mechanic. At 6 yrs old this was his first successful wrenching job. No more leakie.................I think I'll most likely use him again. Can't beat the price.......................

Not to mention...........................He stays away from the Jagermeister.

I just want to go on record and say that as many threads I have read that state you must take off the heat exchanger to remove and replace the oil return tubes on the drivers side of the motor............It's not true. It is tight in there but you can do it and be successful with the exhaust left in tact. If a 6 year old can do it....so can you.

Interesting bumper overriders. Do they protect the expensive reflector?

Yeah, I was pretty glad I remembered to take them. Those will be fun to show him ten years down the road. Too bad about the overprotective daughter-in-law..............she must not need a baby-sitter too badly.

Not being one to mind my own business; where is the face shield?

My son and I had a couple of ‘key gestures’ such as holding up one hand with the index finger down looking like it was missing. Another was closing one eye.

Great pictures.

Best,
Grady

WTF
what is she protecting him from? dirty fingernails? real man words? you know the kind when you bash your knuckles when that stubborn bolt breaks free

she is wusificating(sp) your prodigy. you would be teaching him self reliance and how to be a man. have him and his father come over for a male bonding experience and work on the p-car. explain that maybe the next time she complains about when here car brakes down; that if she had let you teach him a few things, she might not have to pay for the tow truck ride to the mechanic.

my dad has long realized that i have passed him on my car maintenance skills, and is really proud of the job he did teaching me what he could. he now asks me for advise, especially on the old Toyota 4x4 I gave him a few years back

Where did you get the tubes from? They look different from the ones here.

He doesn't need a face mask. Maybe safety glasses if he doesn't want to live on the "wild side"...

Thanks Grady,
Funny you should talk about the face protection. We got out to the garage on our backs and I look over at my son and thought just that; "I really should put some safety glasses on him". Then I thought about teaching him the art of not working directly over you face, but to the front or side of your face. Not to mention; it gives him that tough-guy grease monkey look. All and all he was pretty excited when he actually cut out the tube with those snips and no one lost an eye.

The tubes are Weltmeister. About $100. If any-one needs a set; I have a used set in that are clean and in great shape but I would buy new o-rings for them before I install them. I bought them for $60 shipped but I couldn't find them when I was going to buy new gaskets for them and ended up buying a new set.(I thought my wife threw the box away that had them in it only to find them under some stuff in the garage after I received the new ones in the mail.)
If anyone wants to give me an offer on them; send me a PM, I have no use for them anymore.

Damn nanny state! I had my kids cutting grass as soon as they could reach the handle on the lawnmower. They both still have all of their limbs. (One of them is a lefty now though.)

I love it; reminds me of many, many hours in the garage with my boys. Great way to spend some father/son time together.
