Should I use these plugs?
I recently bought my first Porsche, an 83 911. It's an amazing car, I've added about three thousand miles to the 200,000 it had when I first got it. It is all original with no major work performed on it, but it has been well maintained. I am in the process of giving it a tune up and wanted to ask you all with your vast knowledge and experience for some advice as I go.
I have ordered a lot of parts from our host for the tuneup but the previous owner had some parts that he hadn't used yet. Among them was some new Bosch WR7 spark plugs. Since these are not the plugs recommended by the factory, I come here to see if anyone has used these in a stock 83 SC. Are these ok to use? Thanks, Scott

That is a hotter plug then needed for a stock SC this is one of those questions which comes down to opion...but I run and recommend NGK plugs.

When I buy new plugs, I was going to switch to NGK. I've always had good results with them in all my other cars. I am on a limited budget and trying to get the most use out of what I have. So what could be the effects of running a hotter plug in a stock engine with 200k miles? It uses about 1qt/1000 miles, it has minor leaks. When I pulled the old plugs out, the po for whatever reason had 5 copper plugs and one platinum. I have it on stands right now to fix a crushed oil line using the method described here and on YouTube. "While I'm in there", I plan to do the major tune-up, adjust the valves, replace the strut inserts and tie rod ends. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott

If you are going to run a hotter plug you will most likely have to adjust the air fuel mixture. The hotter plug burns off more waste and is recommended by some for older cars. Then again some will argue that the hotter plug is bad for higher milage engines.

Hello Everyone
I should have introduced myself to the forum before I started asking questions.
I'm Scott Sharp from Marietta, Georgia. I work at a printer right now, for the last ten years, but I started tech school in automotive because it's what I've always liked to do. I got through the first 6 quarters and got some good fundamentals before moving away to go to work in the field. After working in some shops and dealerships, I decided that working on cars for a living wasn't for me. The last place I worked was a local BMW dealership here in Atlanta. So, I went back to school for printing and that's where I've made my living. I still have most of my tools I bought while working back then and I try to use them as much as I can. I got my car last summer and I've been working on it myself so far. I don't really plan to take the car to anyone else except for machine work when I get to that point. Long story short, This is the car I went to school for so to speak. Welcome Scott. How did the plugs look? I would recommend going and getting the right plugs. My auto parts store stocks them and they are only $12 for the set.
BTW- your fan belt looks loose.

Here's the best pictures I could get of the plugs. They look pretty good to me, just worn? ![]() ![]() I actually had loosened the fan belt to check that the alternator was turning smooth, I have since tightened it back. thanks, Good eye

Isnt your vacume retard line supposed to go to the front of the throttle body? or are the pictures just misleading

Scott the only thing I might possibly have a concern about is the use of one Platnuim plug...does that cly. foul easier??

dude,
It's just the picture. It actually goes around the back and up under the intake boot to the front side. It was running great up until recently, then it just started running a little flat.

That Cly. could have an oil burning problem guides, rings....plug doesn't look oily I wouldn't put to much thought into it just something to watch. Enjoy the car.
