Sorry to hear about your setback. Its frustrating but just hang in there, awesome work Tony.

Well heres the latest update following my rookie mistake when I forgot to add hardener to the primer....I had to call in a proffesional and lucky for me he does house calls..........Soda blasting, all I can say is the the stuff is awesome.
and the owner is a PORSCHE/VW enthusiast. Here are some pics and should be priming next week, since i am gonna spend about a week cleaning her up. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1216791656.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1216791775.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1216791828.jpg |
Thanks for sharing through your frustrations. What is uncured primer like? It seems like it kind of dried no? It's probably easier to take off that way.
Keep up the good work. Tim K |
what a bummer man... I'll bet the neighbors were wondering what was that white cloud bubbling up and away from your yard and heading towards them...
I hope he did not use that quickrete on the ladder in his gun to get your job done faster...;-) Hang in there... water works well to clean up the soda on your property... as for your tub, probably use a vacuum & compressed air. Your first painting step will start with a solvent wipe down and the other prep steps I am sure you did. Good luck Bob |
Wolverine, what did the on-site soda blasting set you back? I'm only curious for those who may be headed down this path.... I own a 100lb soda blaster and have found that the soda is costly.....like $24/50lb bag. If I had to guess, I got about $2K in blasting equipment and have a pallet of soda (about $1400) waiting to finish up my tub...
Keep up the great work and keep posting the pics. Peace, Einar |
That stinks about the primer, but I'm amazed they have someone who will come to your house to blast it off the tub... how much longer until we have a traveling Pelican Parts store?
|
I gotta believe that this is not legal in all 50 states...in fact in today's mindset of "green", I find it hard to believe that anyone does this at all. Doesn't look like fun cleaning that stuff up....

You can always build a blasting booth in your garage!!

But remember, the soda is removing a not-so-friendly material, primer, which also was on the ground and in the air when he was done. That was also hosed off with the baking somewhere. That is what I refer to. My guess is that if you called your local EPA office and told them you were blasting primer off a car in the outdoors, they would've had more discussion. You cannot even sand WOOD on a boat anywhere near the shoreline in California without risk of citation. Don't get me wrong, I'm no tree-hugger, but I see all of the things that are frowned upon now....my guess is this is one of them. |

Do you know anyone who needs a nice FG IROC front end for an 11" flared turbo?
I have a very clean unused front end piece. I thought I would start checking around... I will post more pictures soon. ITEM SOLD / TRADED... Looking yellow now... http://www.74911rs.com/images/Picture%20157.png http://www.74911rs.com/images/BlackOutBody%201.jpg |
Can't go wrong with gulf livery. Have you thought about doing an off-center stripe or stripes? There's a tan coupe around here somewhere with a burnt-orange off center stripe - one of my favorite cars.

Been awhile, but the project still continues, just a small update, since I havent had any luck on trying to find a fiberglass person, so I am trying it solo, I thought I would cut them in half since they were about 2" too wide. but still dont know what I'm doing.
Also recieved my 996 calipers back, along with the custom adapters from Clint (of Rebel Racing) after a lenghthy time, but worth the wait. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1241405863.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1241405896.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1241405932.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1241405959.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1241406013.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1241406051.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1241406344.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1241406371.jpg |
