Thanks to all that posted the tips to speed up those 20 odd year old electric window...
Did the trick, but my son, let the door pad slip and the wires came out of the mirror switch and well, I don't have a clue how to recooect them as I have no wiring diagram for the damn switch. Found one that Bill Krause posted when I did a search, but it is not correct for my car. Here is his diagram, and my wires... Hello..I own a 78SC..if you don't get a response and can wait a few hours I'll pull the door panel and take a look for ya. I had the panel of a couple of times to try to find out why a power window was not working...i don't remember all those wires but I'll see.

I read your post and was trying to figure out how the wires could get confused since the connector can only be plugged back in in one orientation. Then I went out to look at mine and prompty pulled one of the wires through the back of the connector.
![]() Anyway, my '78 has six wires and six colors that don't quite match up with either of your lists. I hesitate to draw them out since my passenger mirror works opposite the direction that I push the lever. I don't want to post bad info, so if someone tells me this is normal I will draw out how mine is connected. Otherwise I will watch this thread and figure out whats wrong with mine! |

Have you got a multimeter? Are you bored??
I ended up having to sit down with mine and figure it out. First I figured out which wires did what. You have wire(s) which show +12v, ground wire(s) and wires to the window motor. If neither of the doubled-up wires shows +12v, does grounding one and connecting the other to +12v make the window move? (Make sure the key is in the 'run' position). If so, they are the window motor wires. Moving on to the switch - when the switch goes one way, it connects +12v and ground to each of the window motor wires. When you switch the other way, it reverses the connection. Here is what I did. I drew a matrix on a piece of paper and sorted out what connected what when the switch was moved (ie, hook up multimeter to #1, check numbers 2-8 for zero ohms (ie a connection) - make notes, push switch up, check numbers 2-8 - make notes, push switch down, check numbers 2-8 - make notes. Hook up multimeter to #2, check numbers 3-8......etc). When I had done that and had a think, it all seemed quite obvious, but it has faded into the mists of time. Sorry. Try checking on your wires: are both the black with violet spots and the green +12v? I guess this is the last resort method when noone can help you. It is pretty time consuming!! For what its worth at this point, my white and blue wires are the same as in the diagram. I guess that at least can start to narrow it down for you.

My original diagram was for a 79 SC ROW with just a drivers side mirror. It didn't have a connector, but had separte spade connectors.
Here's a schematic of an '82 SC. Maybe it will help. http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911_Parts/Electrical/911_electrical_82SC_Part4-1.jpg ------------------ Bill Krause '79 911SC Euro |
