So, what ignition wire set has the most desireable spark plug connectors?
You know, the kind that won't fall off the spark plug and/or won't self destruct after a couple of years...

While that thread is going on, I will post here some observations to this specific question.
As I indicated, the early Beru connectors had longevity issues that the newer ones do not. But, perhaps more importantly, the Magnecor ends are SO much easier to find the spark plug with! Because they have a bigger diameter, they remain centered in the hole and find the spark plug. Other ends, including the Beru ones, are smaller and can go side to side in the hole and not find the plug end. Of course, after many years, I've come to have a feel for finding the plug end. But, it's still not as easy as the Magnecors. On the flip side, the "snap" into place on the newer Berus is much firmer than the Magnecors. In fact, it is so firm, that at first I thought the initial "click" was it. I didn't find out until after driving it that there is a second much more substantial snap that the Berus have. Seems to me a firm, strong, connection is better than the weaker Magnecor connection. But, they are probably comparable - as long as you realize to really push those Berus in. |

I was just about to post that the Weiner is big on Magnecor connectors, and I do what he tells me to.

The only thing about the magnacores is they are too damn short! At least mine are... they will not run in the factory locations.

I jumped on a set for the 84, 3.2 engine, when someone told me about the great price that some place had on them at the time, it may have been my good friend Ronnie, AKA(RoninLb). They look nice in the box. Sad to say that I have not got around to swapping them out yet. Heck, it has only been a year or so since I bought them. But they do look nice.

might want to buy the trick looking spark plug wire holders that Porsche racing engines use. They look like metal tabs with a slight bend and have vinyl ends. You bolt them on with the valve covers.

Shouldnt we start an "The Ultimate Spark Plug Wire Thread"
I have recently replaced my Clewetts with an MSD Universal kit. I should have reused the clewett boots and ends they are great. In hindsight the Clewtts were great except for the shielding that they used which allowed arcing when they were wet, I believe that was an issue the way that the shielding was extended into the boot, I believe that has been addressed and fixed.
I think the boot ends on the Clewetts are the best and would put Magnacore as a very close second. Jacobs ends are poo. Here is a link to my MSD wire install if you are interested; MSD Wire Install
