We're back...

5:03AM this morning, someone somewhere decided to clean up some wiring on a patch panel in some telecom room far, far away, and they unplugged an upward loop on our main connection. Surprisingly enough, it took 4 techs working six hours or so continually to figure this out.

Here's the tech around 3.5 hrs into it, inside our MPOE (minimum point of entry), or "phone closet".

In over 10 years of business, this is the longest we've been "dark". You live by the sword, you die by the sword, the Internet is great, but it's not 100% reliable all of the time. Our T1s are still just small copper cables strung over telephone poles.

Thank you everyone for your patience and continued support!

-Wayne

Site went down just as I was ordering a new targa top too!

Just think of the boomlet 9 months from now! could be a long term sales strategy. 16-18 years from now there'll be a huge crop of loyal Pelican Parts Purchasers.

Seinfeld WAS in the Fiat, but backpedaled quickly by saying his favorite car in the collection was his '55 Spyder...

And I thought our IT guy had blocked my access to Pelican after seeing all the time spent logged on!
Whew...
Now, back to important stuff, like Ebay Fuchs.

Wayne,

You get our sympathy.
I know you spent many sleepless nights keeping the Forum up and running.
All we can say is THANK YOU

Congrats on getting it back - I was wondering what had happened since I know you'd spent a bundle on extra servers, and I thought you had them mirrored. Figured it must have been a biggie...

I used to work for a Telco providing data services to the Airlines world wide.

Typical major Airline sites (International Terminals etc) have at least two connections using diverse paths to different exchanges/nodes - can be with the same company if they can provide diversity or using two different providers.

Keeps the site live if one link goes down - the routers and firewalls can be configured to handle it. Airlines are typically driven by 'On Time Departure', so they design the network to handle Telco outages and keep the business running.

If you are already using multiple T1's, then it should not be much extra cost for the Telco to provide diverse path for some of them.

Tim
