Oil Restrictor Question

Hi Folks,

I am dealing with a hunting idle issue on my 2.7 to 3.2 Conversion engine. I went and saw the local Porsche wrench today and he mentioned a few things. The first was he said it must be running rich. I told him that I leaned out the mixture already but it is still hunting (not as badly though).

He then asked whether I installed an oil restrictor when I did the 1987 3.2L Engine in my 1975 car. I had no idea what he was referring to? Can someone comment on whether I missed something when I was doing my conversion? What is an oil tank restrictor? I have read the article about the oil restrictors for the camshaft but I don't believe this is what he was reffering to.

Lastly, would the lack of this oil tank restrictor cause a hunting idle?

Thanks,

maybe the oil "line" restrictor"? Many have seen the results of cut off when the oil cap is removed (a symptom..). Not sure about it's relation to "hunting issues"...idle=yes.

Have you the Bentley? It shows where it is within the rubber oil line (up top).

Best,

Doyle

a bad O2 sensor will cause hunting too...if you installed one during the conversion.

No 02 sensor, as it is a euro engine.

I checked my oil breather hose and I do have the reducer in the oil line. Guess that wasn't my issue.

I have seen this when the idle screw is turned out too far. The base idle should be around 800 rpm.

Keep leaning it further. You're not there yet. If you leave the oil cap off, a quick way to add leanness, I bet the hunting stops.
