Maurizio-

I don't know how easy it would be to install a Bosch CDI system. I went with the MSD as it was less expensive.

Installation was simple, with plenty of information available from this board through the search function. The only challenge was getting the tach to work properly again.

Good luck,
Jim

meanwhile i go to change spark and wires.
Which are the best spark plugs for early 911?
And about spark wires? Beru or others?

thanks
Maurizio

I think, respectfully, that going in and changing the ignition can wait on this car. I'd find out first if in fact the car is running on 5 cylinders, which one it is, and focus hard on the path of current for that bad cylinder. Changing the whole system doesn't necessarily follow at this point, and with a new bride (congratulations!), an ongoing 911 restoration (nice looking 911!), and I'm sure a lot of details for the upcoming wedding, I'd say this is a not quite ideal time to start 911 mods, troubleshooting the mods, and doing whatever fabrication work comes with installing non-factory parts.

As I said, just my opinion, and I hope that I'm stating this in a respectful way.

Maurizio, congratulations and I do hope your new life is full of happiness.

I also agree on changing to the Bosch distributor. I changed my 1970 914-6 distributor to a Bosch because of the same reasons. I have a new Marelli, but it stays in the cardboard box for now because replacement parts are like museum pieces now. Also, the Bosch has a greater range of advance/ retard adjustment. It's also less than half the cost of a Marelli.

thanks for yout contribution.
Yesterday i spent lot of time for a deep check ...... Already check about air leaks...i foud something wrong, i said That's right now!
Go to have a short check on road and....5 cilinder again

so I'm going to understand that i have 2 or 3 bad things that goes wrong.
I go to putt off the silicon spark wires from a daly drive Fiat Brava and go to put on my 911....
and finally SIX CILINDER forever......
so the problem was short air leak+misfire ignition. Both problems did drive my out way.
I also founded a Magneti Marelli Superpotente ingition coil( probably the original coin on early 911T) that will be on car in few days.
Now,
I would give a Big thanks to all Pelicans friends that did read and help me till here.
I will go to post other pictures in few days.

Sorry for my not good US words.
Thanks again my friends

i did check about compression, that's right, valvle clerance- right-, about spark cables-right-, spark plugs-right, -contact breaker-right-, coil -right.....

now i don't know where beat my head..
maybe the distributor cap? It seems in good condition( but maybe have a problem inside??)

Maybe an US friend have suggestions for me ?

ciao ciao
Maurizio
congratulations maurizio
i had the exact same 5 cylinder cold, 6 cylinder hot issue last year.
when changing the plugs i noticed one was a lot blacker than the rest, (it was running rich on that carburetter and sooting up). a turn of the air screw to lean out the problem cylinder solved it in my case.
hope that helps also.

Thanks Paul. Today i connected the vacum-meter in order to have a right weber alignment..beautifull.......
After i used my digital RPM meter in order to understand what happen when i go to turn the air screws. Now the engine is very regular when cold&hot.
Will post a short video on youtube in few days. Will post the web address also here.

SXS man, i live in Salerno next amalfi coast, That's a beautifull location that you and Pelicanfriends must see. Amalfi, Ravello and Positano..

Maurizio, I have a similar car here in Australia that also had Marelli. You can find ANY of the later Bosch distributors (except the SC series) and have it machined down to fit our earlier engine cases. You must have the distributor re-graphed to suit the engine though. This is much cheaper than buying a new Bosch. Next, buy a Crane XR700 ignition system - you will then have a perfect engine electrical set up for our cars

You are in luck ! I'll be in Ravello for a wedding in July that I helped plan and was the driver for the bride . I was there last year ( 2nd time to area )driving bride to be around to many places . I really enjoy the driving on the Alalfi coast ! I've been to Italy about 7 times now . ( You'd think my Italian would be better !!!! )
After the wedding we will be at the Villa Cimbrone for dining and dancing . I'd love to bring you parts and share a Grappa or Vino Rosa with you . No Lemonchello for me ! Also , you can keep Amalfi . Too many tour buses with German and English tourists . Pretty town but spoiled .
I'd like to see your town , I googled it and rather like how it looks . I'll be staying at the same place , view from apartment ....... and looking at Ravello .
This is a little off topic but I had the pleasure of meeting an Italian supper star this last January when I was in Dubai , UAE .

Wife and I even got picked up in Dubai for the road trip to Abu Dabui in
in Guido Cappellini's Hummer Limo . Wifes cousin has been a sponsor of his for years in F1 boat racing . ( Omni Decor.com ) .I've followed his racing history for years but this was the first time I met him . Very nice man . He finished second (2nd) that day .

I got your email and feel free to contact me before I leave and I'll be happy to help any way I can .

SxS ( Jonathan )
