Question new front shocks for boge struts : help

I currently have on order the bilstein inserts for my boge struts.
This is a 74 carrera. Just replaced the rears and found them to be woefully lacking. I could compress them with great ease.
Next weekend will be the front struts. I have the 101 projects book, but I am unclear as to the exact process.
Do I just unbolt the top bolt , compress the strut to get it out and then reverse the process to put them in or is there something I am missing?
Thanks for the help.
Mike
