hub issue, noise in rear of car 82 sc found step in hub

1982 sc
Found a broken cotter pin and loose castle nut a while back on driver side hub. no real noise, just got lucky during a tire change. Tightened it up and all was good. 2 months pass and about 1000miles.

Started getting a whirl noise from the rear that seemed to come only during a coast and would go away upon braking or accel, plus under partial load on accel I could feel a thumb. Instantly thought cv joints. I had a spare axle on the shelf so popped that in on one side.

Noise and thimp still there so orded axle from pp and decide to recheck that drivers bearing. upon loosing the nut everything got real loose. The hub has a definit step from where it was loose. With the nut tight the whole unit appears tight.
New bearing slides through the step and gets tight on the back of the hub so one section of the bearing is tight the other side is loose.

I am guessing the hub is now toast and I have a wtb on the parts side, or if the hub and stub are tight its will be ok?

typical. i see that all the time doing rear wheel bearings. find a good one on the for sale forum. buy a whole arm to get it if you have to. don't bother asking the dealer. another option is weld and machine, like they do on crank journals. just have to find someone who can handle that.
