All the jacking points??

I feel kinda stupid as I know this has probably been discussed ad nauseam but I can't find information about jacking points and procedure for an early car (if there is a difference). My search function is not producing relevant results. For the rear I remember using a block of wood or newspaper under the sump plate but I don't know the proper jack location for the front or for the side. I have reservations about using the factory jack pad under the rocker as I'm not 100% sure about the integrity of that area. Some pictures or links to other threads would help. Thanks!

you can use a 2x4 to jack up the front - it goes all the way across from 1 torsion bar attachment point to the other

I posted pics on how to do it at one time - if you've never done it before you should see some pics first - esp. with a valuable '72 S!!

what search terms are you using? that is the way to find the details

Brian,

whatever you do, go slowly. A lot of guys drive their 911 up onto planks of wood first, then use the increased height to get a jack under the car. I believe on yours there is a fabricated steel cross member betweent the a arm rear mounting points. I think these could be used for jackstands. I use two low profile hydraulic jacks at the front a arm mounting points. Dont place a jack under the a arm itself, you might bend or cause the a arms to bind.

Thanks guys, some good info there. Apparently my search button doesn't work as well as others because I searched for many things before and am left with completely irrelevant threads. Searching by posts instead of threads seems to work alright though.

use a Google site search...

stands should go at the points where the seam curves tightly (radius ~~ 10 cm) - Bill Verburg posted a diagram of the area

go ahead and mark what you are going to put where and post the pic before you lift the car to get more info

and... how about some pics of that '72??

Is it necessary that I use that jack pads that slide into the slot under the rocker if i jack up one side?

I would not do it any other way.
