rear end "clunk" noise - where to start?

Hi everyone,

My 1980 SC now makes a clunking sound from the rear when I go over bumps. I previously found that a drop link was missing and assumed play in the bar was the source of the problem, however, replacing the links with new ones did not affect the clunking sound. the rest of the bar mounts look tight to me. Today I checked the engine mounts for tightness and they look ok too. There was nothing else apparently loose last time I was under the car, when I tried wiggling things with my hands.

ANy suggestions where I should start looking? I only hear the noise on bumps, even small ones...

Thanks!!

So you checked the rear wheel bearings for play/wear?

Maybe it is the linear bearing/bushing in the rear dampers.

the two spots where the rear sway bar mount to the body may have ripped loose of the body. You don't normally notice it when the car is sitting, but if you jack up each side of the car (first one and then the other) it's easier to see.
