PERTRONIX_ No start problems and I have searched and searched
Well I thought today I would take the kids for a nice Fathers Day drive. (My kids have yet to drive in my car
![]() I had a few minutes to kill so i thought I would install the pretronix I got with my last order. I started the car up, let it idle for a few minutes. (i did this just to be sure) So I installed the pertronix as per instructions (and browsing the forum) When I go to start it, it will not start I am frustrated I had the black to the old points lead and the red to 12V This is where it gets worst! I curse the pertronix and re-install the points. Now it still won't start. I am pissed. My fathers day treat is passing me by ![]() I changed CDI boxes just to be sure (I have 2 spare that worked a few years ago). So where can I start looking? I disconnected the wiring With the key on: - I have 12V at the coil but not at the points lead ( I was sure I had 12V there before ? I checked "continuity?" on the coil, my multimeter beeps when I touch the two sides. Only thing I can think of is that I may have put the distributor back in wrong? Or off a few teeth. I was extremely careful when I pulled it to ensure I didn't move the cogs and that it went back exactly where I took it out from. With ignition on should I have 12V at the points lead? PLEASE HELP ME, I am losing daylight Shawn

Can I have the harness hooked up backwards at the CDI box? It will fit either way.
And this changes where the voltage goes (switch between the points pick-up and the coil) Also one of my "spare" CDI boxes is a Bosch silver and it is whining, I know this is not the end all be all but thought I would add everything THIS SUCKS

UPDATE it is FIXED
After searching more I found this link that helped me determine the proper connection.

![]() After supper I am taking my kids for a spin (one at a time) I checked and I DO NOT have 12V at the coil with the key on. Only to the points. I also double checked my two spare CDI boxes and they are working ![]() Shawn

for what its worth, i recently posted my successful Pertronix installation process in a '73 911E here:
Pertronix Installation in '73 911E -- complete with photos it is probably something very simple. for example, did you put the rPertronix ed/black wires into the correct red/black at the CDI unit? are your connectors crimped properly? did you take care to put the engine to TDC and double check your rotor position after re-installing the distributor?

Did the same thing, had the same frustration as you. Follow this diagram below rather than the instructions in the Pertronix box and you should be all set. Also included a link to my thread when I ran into the same problem.
![]() I think I broke it? Post-ignitor install. If I remember correctly - hook up the red wire to a switched power source - I think #2 of the three fuses in the engine compartment should work (search to verify). You'll probably have to extend the wire to reach. Hook up the black wire to the tach lead and you should be all set. (again search to verify as it's been a few months since I did this and don't want to give you bad info.)
