In tunnel fuel line replacements?
What can I use other then original lines for replacements? Can any one tell me what size and what size fittings I need for the ends? Melted the plastic lines when welding in extensions for racing bucket seats.

This past winter, I replaced my factory lines with steal braided lines and AN fittings. Getting them routed through the tunnel wasn't easy, but it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. What's tricky is figuring out the fittings. I have PMO carbs, so the engine side was easily hooked up with AN fittings. On the tank side, both feed and return are straight (non-threaded) fittings that use hose clamps. I had to create a transition from AN fittings to barbs and then run pieces of fuel injection line from the barbs to the tank fittings. If you have CIS or Motronic, you will need to find AN-to-metric adapters. These are available, but you'll need to do some digging. I would start with XRP, a companny that manufactures fittings.

I replaced mine this winter as well for the very same reason! I used AN -6 for the supply and AN -4 for the return. They were a tight fit - I don't know if it would have been possible to go any larger. I got most of my fittings from BAT in Florida - http://www.batinc.net/main.htm - they had a good selection and a good PDF catalog you can browse through. Good luck!

Summit has all the fittings you need I have a wish list set up for this project so when ready I just transfer all the parts to the cart.

Does summit know exactly what I need to replace the stock lines? I want them to go right onto the other fittings that are there. I don't want to waste my time looking for the right fittings. I'm lazy!!!!!!!!!

How about passing on the wish list. It could be a help for a lot of us. I know mine are due for replacement, heck 22 year old rubber can only hold up to so much chemical abuse.

I recommend using the stock lines if they're available, otherwise like Tom mentions, www.batinc.net has the correct fittings.

When your tunnel is making odd popping noises while welding best you check your fuel lines. When I tried to start car it wouldn't start and tunnel filled up rapidly. With gas.

Your welcome, Yeah count em up banjo to fuel pump, adapter to tank return thats about all up front then in the back you have supply to fiter/accum. adapter and return line adapter on cis header and then AN fittings on all 4 hose ends a total of 8 fittings just to replace the tunnel lines. I am going much farther I am replacing all the lines from the tank to the fuel rails.

Tell us more about your car so that we can make some specific recommendations. I urge you to download the XRP fittings catalog at XRP.com. No affiliation, but their stuff is generally regarded as "the best". |

Do the Earl's fittings have the ball and socket fit of the original fittings? Does it matter?
I bought the stuff from batinc to have the correct ball and socket fit.

I was looking at the batinc stuff last night they have metric to AN fittings that would eliminate some clutter and possible leaks.

I did this job over the winter using parts from Summit and Pegasus. I used 6AN braided hose outside the tunnel, and 5/16" stainless tubing inside the tunnel. The hoses on my car (a 78) were in pretty bad shape and are NLA from Porsche so I replaced everything.
The good thing about the tubing is that it's the same OD as the factory lines so you can use the factory grommets, at least in theory. It is flexible enough to follow the original routing and is pretty easy to feed through if you have a helper pulling from the other end. In my case I had a clearance issue at the front end. The combination of the tube-to-6AN adapter and the 90 degree elbow was hitting against the steering rack. To fix this I ended up using a grommet with a larger ID at the front, so I could push the tube fittings back into the tunnel a half inch or so. Basically the new grommet goes around the tail end of the fitting instead of the tube itself. If I had the job to do over, I would not bother with the braided hose, and instead use the 6AN sized cloth-over-rubber hose made by Aeroquip and others. The braid is a pain to deal with (literally) and I ended up putting heat shrink over most of it so it wouldn't rub the paint off the chassis. I ended up re-using the factory connectors at the connection points for the fuel pump, tank return, and the engine supply and return lines. Using some hose-clamp style ends sized for AN hose, I was able to crimp the new hose onto the barbs on the factory pieces. The fit was a bit loose before tightening the clamps, but the system does not leak. I was originally planning to use fittings from BAT Inc, but decided against it for now as I am not sure how long I will be keeping the CIS fuel injection. Though, so far so good this year. Good luck Scott
