Carrara oil cooler
Just got a used carrara oil cooler. It came with the hoses cut and now I need to disconnect.
I have read the fittings are delicate and I don't want to ruin the threads. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Thanks ![]() |

The fittings are probably going to be seized. I opted to slit the nut using a cutoff wheel on a Dremel. See this thread for details..

I cant imagine needing to cut the hose ends off the cooler. Don't risk damaging the cooler. If they don't come off easily, use some heat.

I second the heat. Mine took some heat cycling and 3 days of penetrating lubricant soak prior to reluctantly releasing.

Penetrating oil, a large vise grip, channel locks and a gentle touch. "Lefty Loosey".

Nice looking coupe - '76?
If you're uncertain about the condition of the cooler, I recommend sending it to someone like Pacific Oil Cooler for a professional cleaning and inspection. To me, the cost of an expert cleaning is well worth the peace of mind in knowing there aren't some fine metal shavings in there that you're going to dump into your motor. |
