Hi-beams and Hi-beam flash not working on 82 911sc
Last night I went out for a night time drive and when I went to turn on my hi-beams everything went dark.
No hi-beams, no flashing of hi-beams. I have low-beams and parking lights. I checked fuse #'s 7&8 and inspected bulbs and all looked good. Is it the turn signal/hi-beam stalk? Is there a test for that? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Jay |

The stalk switch is notorious for failing. It's easy to replace, but there are a bunch of wires that connect to the back of the headlight switch, and you need to replace them one-by-one.
Also, this is a good time to add a relay to the system to prevent the new switch from frying. Marcus Sucro makes a great kit that's relatively inexpensive and is sold by our host (IIRC).

Should I test for something else before I assume its that?
Also, how difficult is it to install this headlight relay you mentioned? Is it something thaat gouse by the fuse box where the hi-beam fuses are? |

Testing makes sense, but I don't know how you'd go about doing it.
Yes, the relay kit installs near the fuse box. The instructions included with the Sucro kit make the job simple.

I did a search for Marcus and Sucro and came up with nothing on our hosts site. Does it go by a different name?

Did you measure the voltages at the fuse positions? Or maybe changeout the fuses with fresh ones,.? (probably so...just saying "visuals" don't always cut the mustard)
Make sure the bulbs are ok (changeout?) Then on to the stalk switch inspection/measurements/replacement. YES,..the relay mod IS quite easy to install,..total DYI and direly needed if not installed...tons of info on it,..plus, the vendors of choice are quite helpful if needed. Best, Doyle

This thread should do the trick...turn signal switch quick fix pictures.
It did for me a couple years ago and have had no problems since. I also did the relay when I went to 100w bulbs....very easy. Good luck,

I tested voltage at the plugs for the headlights and I got 12v on the low beam but when I clicked on the hi-beams I got nothing.
I didn't check the voltage at the fuse. I didn't check the stalk switch for voltage measurements either. Not really sure how to do that. Direction on how-to will be appreciated. |
