I have gotten my hands on a front set of 964 calipers, and I want to install them on my 1984 911. I understand I will have to elongate the mounting holes slightly. My current wheels leave plenty of room for the bigger calipers, so that is not a problem. My question to anyone who has done this before is if I need to get the hard brake lines from a 964, and if anyone has any other useful info on the job. Thanks in advance.

What are you trying to accomplish?
Appearance? solve heat issues? Stop shorter? less effort? Yes, you can use 964 brakes on a 911, there are 2 ways to do it. The cob job way 1) modify 964 mounting holes 2) use ss brake lines the right way 1) machine off the stock 964 mounting ears 2) drill radial mounting holes 3) obtain ot fab correct aliper adapters 4) mount on 930 size front rotors 5) connect w/ ss brake lines 6 )now do the back, start by filling the exosting mounting holes 7) redrill to match the 3" 911 trailing arm holes and 930 rotor diameter 8) mount on 930 rear rotors 9) comnnect w/ ss brake lines 10) r/r m/c w/ an ATE 23.8mm version, which version depends on whether you have boosted brakes or not

I am mostly putting them on for appearance, and the slight gain in braking perfromance I suppose. I figure I got them, I might as well use them. I will be utilizing the cob job way of installing them.

Seems like a major waste of time and money for appearance sake. I doubt you will notice any stopping performance gain either.
Might be better off mounting them on a plexiglass pedestal for your living room coffee table. |

Bigger rotors+Bigger calipers=no gain in stopping performance?? Mounting on plexiglass pedestal for living room display shot down by Management. |

That's the whole point, you will be using the same 3.2 Carrera rotors that you already have, no gain. The calipers have bigger pistons so, yes, you get more clamping force but that generates more heat and you still don't have any more rotor capacity to absorb the heat. Plus the bigger pistons mean that the pedal will feel softer and have a longer stroke which is all bad ofr feel. SO no gain in stopping performance!!!

I was gonna say all the benefit is in the rotors. What is the difference between 930 rotors and Carrera rotors?
I need to look at Bill Vs charts. Just looked at Bill Vs home page and read the primer. Man would I love to put some turbo sized rotors on the front of my car. I will have to look at some of the pricing, I am sure it is outta my league when combined with the calipers.

here's how i did mine way back when here for 964 to 911 or you can do what VCI does here for VCI 964 brakes on a 911 Personally if I wanted a 911 BBK I would look at Brembo GTP-L kits

Depends on brand. You can go with Wilwood HD rotors 309x32 and they're about $90 each retail. I ran these under 993 brakes and had very good results.
http://www.wilwood.com/Products/002-Rotors/003-HD/index.asp You can step up to the GT rotor if you feel it necessary and pay $180 each. Not sure the GT is necessary on the somewhat light pre-89 911 cars. Chris Streit uses the HD rotors and 993 brakes that I gave him on his GTS-4 3.3L 1970 911S and has had excellent results with them.

Hats are custom made. Typically a flat/zero offset plate made of high strength alloy. Bolt circle for the Wilwood rotors in this case is 8 holes (5/16") on 7.00" center. I don't know the dimensions/hole spacing of the rotor mounting on 911 front axle hubs. Five M8 holes on ???? center?

I don't want to highjack this tread but how about these rotors? Anyone had try or can those work on a 2000lbs car with S caliper?
From the Wildwood catalog.

For comparison sake, I know someone who used the Wilwood UL32 standard series rotors on his car and did not have good results with them. Granted, this was on a '87 3.4L cabrio that sees track days. Still, I don't think the scalloped rotors are a wise idea. The HD rotors are reasonably priced, very robust and don't weigh a gazillion pounds.
But if your car does nothing but cruise the streets, those scalloped rotors could work.
