Brake Pad Recomendation Request
I have an 84 Euro 911 Carrera Cabriolet. I added a Steve Wong Chip and Fab Speed exhaust. It's mostly a fun vehicle; ice cream with the kids, short day trips, a few rallies with the club and an auto cross every so often. Mostly fun spirited street driving. My wife also drives it sometimes.
I'm looking to replace the current pads. I do not know what they are, but they are getting low and have begun to squeal once hot. I would like to find something a little better than stock to enhance the feel and performance. Has anyone tried the EBC GreenStuff pads? I used them before on some small import cars and liked them. Your recommendations appreciated. ![]() -Rick ![]() |

I don't have any experience with the EBC pads, but for your usage, I actually like Axxis Metal Master pads. They're inexpensive, quiet and don't produce alot of dust.

Porterfield R4-S (high performance street pad)
Quiet and adds some nice bite.

I put on Ferrodo pads. I like them because they generate very little brake dust.

Following the recommendation of a few I went with Mintex myself. No dust or noise and easy on the rotors, plus the price was right.

FWIW, I replaced my rotors and flexible brake lines, replaced the pads and flushed the brake fluid, and what a difference! So you might want to check the 'other stuff' while you're in there.
Let us know how it works out, Paul.

I'll second the Ferrodo 2500 pad. works as expected when cold. Works awesome when hot. Good wear. Low dust. Getting ready to put my second set on.
Pelican doesn't sell em. http://www.brakeshopper.com/

I agree. I put them on my 951 (now deceased), I have them on my 911 and I just put them on my wife's Volvo. If I could have found some to fit my GMC 4x4 I would have put them on that too. JerryM '78 SC |

You'll find that brake pads are like motor oil- everybody has their favorite flavor.
For no dust and good performance, ceramic pads are very good too. http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brakes.jsp?make=Akebono&model=ProACT+Ceramic+Pads A friend used these pads on his 996 at a TestNTune day at Gingerman Raceway. He said they performed excellent and I was shocked. I know you said your car is just for spirited use and not full-on track duty. Still I wanted to point out that these pads are very friendly as far as dust and noise go, but also can stand up to some track abuse. I myself use the factory Porsche Textar pads and use Performance Friction PF-97 or Porterfield R4 on the track. None of which are low dust or very quiet! ![]()

Please forgive me if I jump in, but I was ready to post same question when I saw this thread.
Question I have: best brake pads for my 1978 - 930. I like good bite, no squeak, good braking. I don't care about the dust or how long they will last. TIA PS: For VERY spirited street driving . . . .

I ran with Ferodo 2500's and they were good, occasionally squeally on the street, OK on the track, soft on the discs, bit of dust.
Due to a mixup have Pagid Blacks for the fronts and Yellows for the rears for track work. Brillant. Never got around to swapping them out for the road. Guess what, still brilliant. No noise, lots of bite cold and what appears to be less dust and the front. Lots of squealling at the back but that has settled down to occasional squealling. Go figure? Pagid Blacks rule.

I'm very happy with the Ferodo 2500s that I have on my 930 calipers...no sqealing and not too bad on the dust. A real guru recommended them to me and I have no regrets.

Another recommendation for the DS2500's from me. They work a treat with my 993 brake setup
