If those cars exist or not thats the question. I can only tell that what you discribe I have one at home: 1977 row 2.7 Turbo look completly original green targa, 5 speed, turbo front suspension, 5 blade fan, it is in excellent condition. I bought it from a Air Force Captain that was station at Germany. Its being dificult to mathc this car with other modes.

Albert,

Can you descride the deck lid and rear spoiler? If i look through the spoiler grill, I can see that the deck lid looks like an original item with the spoiler simply bolted on vs. having the lid cut out as large as the hole in the spoiler. The spoiler is also fiberglass. Fenders are definitely metal and there is no sign that the rear flares were tacked on. I could not see a joint so I assume they are butt welded as I believe the early turbo flares were installed.

I guess the proof may be in whatever receipts the owner may have for the body conversion if in fact it was a conversion at all.....

Wayne, I think it will be Monday before I go... Thanks for the offer and I'll give a yell if possible.

Kilodawg,

Here's another angle and one of the issues with the body work. Bumper and bellows need some work...

Chris,
I'll be around Monday - just let me know. Photos look good. I don't remember ever seeing that one around town. Any of the local service shops do any of the work?

Look it over REALLY good for rust, prior accident damage and poor workmanship, in addition to the usual PPI items.

I have no idea how they could screw up the bumper/accordian/ rubber smile/spoiler lip that badly. Never seen that before.

Well, I had another superficial look (it's just down the street...) Can't find a seam in the rear flares. No rust from the underside. No turbo tie rods. Rear spoiler fits like crap. There are Carrera tensioners.

Worked on by a hack. Oil lines are crushed in the usual spot and the floor is a bit mangled aroung the jack area on the driver's side.

I'm under $10k now....

Poorly adjusted bumper is the cause.

There's not enough extra play, in the two holes on each side of the bumper (where the bumper attaches to the mount,) to cause that much misalignment. Something else is bent or not installed correctly.

Inspecting it in the morning and will have a look at the receipts. Will try to copy the German documents that are supposedly from the original owner to possibly translate after the fact.

The more I think about it I'm starting to feel like it should be saved from future harm. How stupid is that....

Chris:
Te deck lid is stanfard with the fiberglass spoiler bolted to it. the turbo back flares are welded very clean, The front changes, mine is norow fron body ,the 77 has the headlights water cleaning lines come about 2 inches high. It has parking lights and side markers like US. The fog lights are in a braket attached to the bumper. I check the vin number and it was for Japan. The tie rods where standard but the cross member is turbo. The vin is 9117311396. As I told you, no air condition, fabric material original manual side windows, 5 blade fan. No gases pump. Original green color. I bught it in Dec 29, and ride it every other saturday, start fast, no smoke. I am still learning about this car, so far the only bad thing for what I read is the 2.7. By the way the spark plugs in the engine are W5dc, pelican sells WR5dc are they the same? pleasse advice.

Chris: Forget to tell you 77 has 15" black cookie cutters. The only thing that is not original is the radio which is kenwood, only has driver flag mirror and no stop third light. Ill try to send some pictures that are not the best, because I do not how honestly.

Albert,

Good looking car. Love that color! Thank you for the pictures.

I'm not sure the rear spoiler on this car is a factory piece. Rubber lip is the same, but grill mesh is missing (there is a substitute material) and the fit is horrible. No big deal really as I'm looking at this as a track car. Also, some pictures I saw of the wide body with no tail are interesting. If that's my course, I'll need a 2,7 regular grill. Should be easy enough to find.

More info tomorrow after I have a thorough look at the car and it's documentation. I'll decide then if a PPI is worth the trouble. I'm looking at several thousand less than the asking price and having trouble deciding how to break that to the seller...

I'm curious if he still has the 7 & 9" Fuchs that I hope were on it before the current wheels. That would sweeten the deal.

Albert,

Your car appears to have the Turbo rear spoiler but the rear wheel flares are SC style which watches the regular front fenders. That is just like the SC and Carreras. I assume the SC flares would not be standard on your 77 since they started in 78, unless those flares started in the ROW cars earlier. Your fenders are just like my 87.

Chris if this is a factory rear spoiler it will have the Porsche name embossed in the fiberglass in the rear just under the rubber lip. Also a factory rubber lip for the rear spoiler will have the Porsche crest embossed in it in the rear just above the Porsche name on the rear spoiler. Search for sale ads and you will see what I mean.

As for the shoddy fit of front bumper If he had the work done by the jack a#$es that just finished my paint work, I would say shoddy reassembly....

Wish I was in the area as I wouldn't mind just looking at it to kill some time. What road is this on? I'll get back middle of the week, If it is still around I would like to see it.

Gregg

Gregg,

Thanks for the reminder. The fiberglass and rubber of my 87 spoiler are both embossed.

Sorry about your bad luck on paintwork. I have heard great things about Eurofinish.

The car is on Indian River Rd. close to Lynnhaven in the front yard of a home. If it's not there when you gete home, PM me for the phone number.

The serial number indicates that it is a standard ROW 2.7 911, which would not have come with the flares on the rear. Rear flares were standard on all Carreras from 1974 to 1977.

It was not Eurofinish who did my paint work. Maybe I should have gone there.
I went to a shop on Birdneck Rd. (AE) and have regretted it. At least they gave me a reason to drink.....

If anybody would like to find out how to get kicked in the furry little bean bag on a monthly basis let me know and I will tell you just how enjoyable it can be. After the first year of BS you just loose hope.

I learned the hard way to triple check any shop you plan on working on your car...

Okay. The report.... Drum roll.... POS!

The $7800 rebuild was $800 in parts and $7000 in labor! One exhaust valve, one intake valve, four CASE studs (not head studs....), and a ring gear in the transmission. No machine work of any kind. As far as the left front end, it seems that the shock is hosed as it moved around a bit. The turbo flares looked a lot better from the inside than the outside, but from the outside bondo blending, I don't think it could have been a factory job. Rear sway bar is missing too.

I'll stop now. Maybe not a bad project for half the asking price and someone with plenty of time a skills.

Thanks for everybody's input.
