Question HELP!! Boxster with attitude!

Five months ago I have a purchased 98' Boxster with a wee bit of a problem... Well I replaced the motor 2.5 liter three months ago to have the mechanic improperly install the tiptronic transmission causing that to break. I have just had it rebuilt which I have installed.
The problem now is I took it out for a test drive and went through the gears, I (pinned) floored it to have the car died at 5000rpm on acceleration. The engine turns over but won't start I have checked and the fuel pump is delivering at 55lbs. The only thing I have noticed is that the (tps) throttle position sensor is making a vibrating sound. Would the car run if this was defective?
I've spent more time and money trying to fix this car than driving it!!!!
Can anyone help?

You might want to try the very active Rennlist.com Boxster forum or maybe the Boxster/Cayman forum here. This forum deals with the air cooled 911's (although some of us do, in fact, own Boxsters and Caymans).

Also, if I were you, I'd throw in the towel (in terms of do-it yourself diagnosis) and send it to a respected repair shop. They'll have it figured out in no time.

Anyway, good luck to you.

As a Boxster owner, if you have actually seen your engine or tranny you are way ahead of the crowd. Can't help you with your problem, but kudos to you for trying!

Thanks for clearing that up. You keep all of our air cool owners' noses up in the air. That why they say we are not friendy at the Miata fourm. Please chase him away with only 1 post, I am sure he's not worthy of our time.

Thanks Scott.

Jeff

Well, I feel sorry for the guy, but it 's pretty clear where the threads are supposed to go. The thing is (and I guess he doesn't know it because of the 1 post and no cross post) the Boxster forum here is dead and decayed beyond recognition. He might have read some over there and decided screw it. For Boxster questions, one can post on the 996 forum too. Same car, different layout for the motor. Everything north of the backs of the seats is identical.

I don't blame the guy for trying this forum all the others are dead!!! The enthusiasim for the old 911's never dies, wish i could give him some advice, but honestly it must be hell to work on something you can't even see the damn engine on. Good luck on your search. The boxster is a cool car just not my cup of tea (tray).

I'm one of the 350 that took a look... Anytime I see the word "Attitude" here, I gotta see what the fuss is about. This place lacks so much attitude, I need an upper.

I think it's a shame the boxster and new 911 forums aren't so active, because Pelican is a great community. I wonder if there's a way they could be promoted better?

Anyway, how about being more friendly to a new comer, even if he's in the worng place. I think we've all posted something here that's not really 911 technical at one time or another. It doesn't take much effort to point him in the right direction!

Matt

I love my '73 911, but I also love my '02 Box S...both true Porsches, just different.

ktownkris, check out www.986forum.com or www.renntech.org; both are very good sources for info.

The reason why the 986/996 forums are dead is because they really aren't "enthusiast" models.

Sure some of us Porschephiles own them but the MAJORITY of those models are bought by people who don't have a Fn clue and simply own it as a status symbol. They aren't buying components from Pelican, Rennsport, Smart Racing etc etc to try to extract every ounce of performance from the vehicle... probably for the beter since the drivetrain can't hack it anyays. They arent doing DIY.

Again, I said MAJORITY.

My 1st peice of advice to this guy would have been not to purchase a Boxster, my second would be to find a competent mechanic because it seems like whomever is doing the work doesn't have a Fn clue, either.

Hello. My name is Derek. And I would love to own a Cayman. (glad that's off my chest)

I don't primarily because the nearest dealership is 6 hrs away and the technology is so advanced I couldn't hope to adjust anything even if I could find the engine.
