First mechanical problem in years!

My '86 has been dead reliable. Even this problem is minor. Go to turn on the wipers and on low they will not work. Switch to high and they will eventually work and then I can switch to low and they work. If I pull in on the lever the washer/wiper works. Is this a symptom of the wiper switch going out and needs replacing or just a good cleaning of the contacts? Thanks all.

I had a similar problem. Cleaned the switch with and all was good.

Windshield wipers suddenly don't work

It could still be the relay or the switch itself but cleaning it is easy - and cheap. You would not believe the amount of crud that came out of mine. I'm was surprised it worked at all.

Also be sure to check your fuse block. I had one crack ever so slightly and all sorts of gremlins (wipers, brake lights, directionals, etc.) started to appear. All's well now!

Pulled and cleaned out the switch with contact cleaner and it works perfect now. Took about an hour. Thanks!

Ya gotta love it when the original parts work fine after 22 years with nothing but a simple cleaning. Try that with Ford or Chevy....
