Timing Settings ??? A Little Histroy also !!

Hi there,
Ok first of all this car has been a mystry to me when it comes to the engine !!
I imported the car In june this year from Arizona to here in Ireland,
I have totaly stripped it down inside & out,
It was sold to me as a 1975 2.7 Targa, but there was a Carrera badge on the engine lid but he said it was just put there for show.
So then i went looking for the engine number but as it has new casings & theres no number,
A guy i was in contact with from LA took a look at some photos i had took of the engine and said it was a 3.0 engine, he said it was because of the flywheel ??
Next thing is that it has points, he said this a Carrera engine and it was never released in the USA and it must be from Europe !!
I have one number off the fuel Dist:0-438-100-031 (off a 3.0 engine i found)
Lads take a look at the engine pictures and let me know what you think:

This weekend i need to get the timing sorted out as it seems to be hanging up around 2000rpm's,
I think it might be out now as i have installed Pertronxs & the MSD6al

Anybody know what i should set the timing to ??

Hmm, the 9 bolt flywheel started w/ the '78 SC and was used through the last 3.2 in '89, for '77 and earlier 6 bolts were used

but points were used only through '77

it looks as though the fan is 245mm, which means any year except '78 & '79 which used 226mm

best thing is to get the engine # from the vertical face to the right & below the fan, to the left of the oil pressure transmitter.
