Locating production number
I would like to find the production number of my 1988 coupe.
I have searched the forum and most refer to the production number being located underneath the dash, sometimes in yellow grease pencil. I have also read that it is stamped all around the car. I have checked and cannot locate it anywhere under the dash. I have lifted my carpets, checked in the trunk, checked in the engine bay but to no avail. I have however located it on the underside of each seat on a yellow sticker. But I want to find it on somewhere else on the car to cross check. Is there anywhere else on the car I can check? thanks for your assistance.

I think it's part of the VIN. Last three maybe?
Can anyone confirm?

Here is my VIN:
VIN WPOZZZ91ZJS100520 Engine number 64J00926 Just found this under the passenger side floor mat. There is a plastic backing stitched under the mat. Is this the production number and if so can someone work out what it says? Not sure which way up is the right way so have included it both ways. ![]() ![]() 108080 or 080801??? can anyone interpret this please and confirm if this is the production number? Where else can I find the production number ie the chassis?

108080 is correct. You should see my moms 'm', looks like a w (handwriting).

thanks slodave.
This doesn't seem to relate to the VIN as indicated by the above posts. I thought the production number was completely separate to the VIN as the prod number is the number as it goes along the production line whereas the VIN is allocated to the car once it is finished based on the model. Does anyone know where I can find it on the chassis rather than just the seats and carpet? many thanks

I've heard of numbers under the door panels and under the dash pad.
EDIT: No grease pen on my mats.

For what its worth my diamond blue does not have grease pen numbers either. Check for a sticker on the luggage compartment lid. It should have your vin. #, vehicle code, engine and trans. code, paint and interior code and option codes. Good luck

Is the number on the carpet the same as the number under the seats?

Slodave is correct, at least for early cars, the production # is under the dash pad--in grease pencil (usually) under the top pad, and stamped into the metal behind the knee pad. Obviously, it's easier to remove the knee pad (left side) than the dash.

Ossiblue is correct. The early cars have the production number written in grease pencil on the top of the chassis under the dash pad. It is also stamped in the chassis behind the right kneepad, next to the ashtray. I am not sure if a later model Carrera has the removal dash pad, though.

porschenut - hard to tell because I didn't remove the seats. I kind of stood on my head with a torche to look under the seats. I could clearly see a yellow sticker but from the awkward angle I could really only make out one and a bit of the numbers. The number that I could read fits the prod number under the carpet but that is not verification until I actually remove a seat at some stage.
RE knee pad. Excuse my ignorance but I'm not familiar with what this is. Is their a knee pad on an 87-89 Carrera and if so what am I looking for? I guess being a right hand drive mine would be on the right rather than left? (I'll check my Bentley and do some more searches on "knee pad" but thought I would seek clarification while I am at it).
