I recommend you PM 88clubsport on this forum. He added side decals to his CS racing clone; AFAIK he got them from the UK. He has a great thread on Pelican re: the conversion of his SC to a CS clone with UK side trim and red Fuchs. Here's the thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/393108-time-paint-scarrera.html?highlight=88clubsport |

I'm trying to get some of the Colorado CS owners to show up at the 2009 Parade; 88 Club Sport (Craig) is a likely contender. |
Wow stunningly beautiful cars and rare indeed! Thank you Tom!
Through google I've seen quite a few RHD cars in the red and white color combo with red 16" fuchs and a CS script on the hood....what gives? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1225938994.jpg |

My friend use to own NO.#7 of 7 brought in to the US in '89.
He bought it brand new in '89 |
If you get a chance, read the August 2008 issue of Octane Magazine. It features Porsche RS cars including the CS. The amazing thing is the '88 CS photographed has over 400,000 miles !!!! Also interesting to note is how they felt the steering was improved when converted to 15" wheels.

Very nice car for sure. Its definitely a Euro 911 - you can tell by the side markers, amber taillights and smaller rear bumperettes. I know for a fact that there was only one US CS with a sunroof. I suppose its possible there was a Euro CS with a sunroof, but I've never heard of one - I'll check with my counterpart in the UK to see what he knows; I'll email him this link and see what he says.

The decals are wrong on the white car, I have a real set, there are pin stripes, if you look closely at the UK car you can see them. Plus I have a letter from the late Olaf Lang stating that there was one WW with a sunroof. Tom has it. The same letter says there were two with A/C, I have one.
The most interesting thing about the three is that the service information manual says that you were not allowed to add A/C or a roof. Mine supposedly Stoddard got for a guy as a special, Tom's I believe was ordered by a Porsche salesman for himself. The great thing (to me) about the 88's is that they are serialized, the last four digits are 5XXX, the 5 being the magic number. The US and Canada cars both got them, so you have 22 to choose from. I have the 15's that came on mine, but I have 16x7 and 16x9" on it now.<p> <img src=http://wl.filegenie.com/~mncnc/cs88.jpg> |

The Gulf Blue CS above is a real CS? It has chrome window trim and door handles.
|
Yep, it is real. I have driven it.
David's Gulf Blue CS is a "special wishes" car that was ordered in Gulf Blue with the chrome trim by the original purchaser who was a 917 enthusiast. It also has a burgundy pinstripe interior to simulate the red seats that came in 917K's. Sounds awful, but actually looks pretty good in person. |

It was a Euro delivery in the "stealth" mode: chrome vice black trim, no CS fender graphic but included "Carrera" logo on engine cover; all other CS's have no logos on the rear (weight reduction efforts). Beautiful burgundy interior with "Porsche cloth" which looks great with the Gulf Blue. Quite a find by an owner two or three owners before David; it was purchased from a dealer who, because they were so rare, didn't know what he had! :) |
Besides being way cool and rare it should not be to tough to match the 110 weight difference for us normal 3.2 owners.
Removing the spair, jack, and tool kit reduces weigh 50 lbs. The stock batter weights a reputed 65 lbs and can be replaced with one from a Miata or a race batter for 40+ lbs. Take out the seat backs and we are getting close. Then add a cat bypass and SW chip. Something many do not think of is the weight difference between the 15 and 16's. One site I go to sh-owes the 15's over 20 lbs lighter. Usually 15" tires are a pound of two lighter each for as much as 30 lbs difference. I wonder, did most CS's have limited slip transmissions and was there any difference in the spring or bushings. I wonder if not having the sunroof which eliminates 40 lbs up so high makes a difference in body roll. Wish I had one. |
