TRE, Elephant Racing, & Pelican Parts -Thank You!

Thank You!

Some of you might have seen my Team Williams thread a while back on the Autocross and Track Racing Forum. I figured that I was way over due for an update and some thanks. It’s been a long journey, much longer than planned as always, but the light is here and there is great rejoicing. A short description, most of the build pics are on the link above:

’81 SC w/ 3.2 that has been rebuilt along w/ the transmission to incredible standards by TRE Motorsports Inc. It turned out as such a work of art I felt bad putting oil in her; a sight and sound to behold! The engine was a mild stock rebuild to include reliability and track duty upgrades, which include a GT3 oil pump. The trans has a GT LDS and WEVO gate shift internals.

The suspension was all from Elephant Racing thanks to Chuck's great advice: 23/31 t-bars, 22/22 swaybars, polybronze and monoballs all around, de-cambered ball joints, raised spindles, custom valved bilstiens, Quick change springplates, and a couple other goodies.

Oil cooling is a ER Widemouth Carrera oil cooler w/ fan and a Setrab front cooler. A TRE roll bar and front and rear TRE IROC bumpers were fitted and a MA Shaw IROC tail cleans up the back nicely. Recaro Pole Position seats, ESS fire system, 6-pt harnesses, and a few other track details were added.

The Porsche side script is from MikeZ at No Bad Day Graphics, which really set it off nicely.

Look at that beautiful engine! I have many more pics of it on request.

I installed an hour meter and Transponder w/ a switch and a VDO CHT and Voltmeter round out the cockpit instruments.

ESS fire system:

TDW 8x9.5x17 Wheels wearing Toyo RA-1 235/40 & 255/40 tires.

A little safety wire on the CV for good measure, and I don’t want to hear that this is catastrophe waiting to happen; you are wrong! I’ve been running safety wire on airplanes and critical car parts for years and there is no substitute for safety and security.

Absolutely beautiful! I just finished a similar project using Elephant Racing as a supplier for my suspension needs. The quality of their equipment is TOP NOTCH! I wish Chuck would make some adjustable spring plates for the 87-89 Carrera. I had to go with Sway-A-Away for my 1987. Certainly not up to the quality standard held by Elephant Racing.

Did you have any problems with your front torsion bars rubbing on the inside of you front control arms and making noise????
How did you get your rear control arms so clean????
Thanks Mark

I think that would be referred to as a exceptionally well *prepared* car.

Top drawer. I like it.

Looks like a reface/recalibration job from Palo Alto or No Hollywood Speedo....

Thanks guys!

Mike nailed it, so to speak; Palo Alto Speedo did the Tach.

The tires have lots of room. I thought that the fronts might rub on the inside at full lock but they don't. Fenders are rolled just in case though.

Mark- I cheated on the trailing arms, they are powder coated. I have only seen T-bars rub on the inside of the A-arms when there is old worn out rubber bushings on them. If they were to squeak w/ Poly-Bronze bushings, I would think that I really screwed up the install.

Patrick, you whore! I can't wait to get back out to the track. I need to get some miles on the engine before I take her out and flog her though. I think that the chances of me seeing you out there are pretty good. I hope to hit both POC STS events in Nov.

That is NICE ! I want to be on the want list for that car. Did Tre advise wrapping the oil tube to the tank ? I have felt mine is really hot and considered doing something like that.

In either case, well done lad
