The Real Deal...
![]() ![]() Not sure why most folks put the split-colored lenses on the outside since most pictures of the factory R's that I have seen have them inboard. Love those chrome bases...

perhaps it because the accepted position of the indicator is usually to the outside. Also some choose to use a clear portion half/ amber portion half for back up and turn signal; again the logical best seen position would be the outside.
Does anyone know what the original all red R unit held as far as bulb(s) was it two bulbs ? running and stop?

Best would be to use two bulb bases for both and use the red like you said for running and brakes the other for signal and reverse. I don,t have reverse now and i miss it backing up the car in the garage. Cheers, Ed

Originally, the 911R used an amber/red dual bulb lamp inboard with the amber portion painted red - this lamp functioned as the stop & tail lamp.
They then used an all-amber (single bulb) lamp as the flasher. Here's this set-up on my 911R-inspired car: ![]()

There we are! that explains why the split lenses looked amber in one shot and red in another. Hella did not make a dual bulb red assembly, so Porsche had the amber part tinted
its all becoming very clear now .... thanks andy- your car is spectacular!

A work in progress...
+1 on all the good info! I kind of figured that folks were putting the split lenses on the outside for visibility's sake. Makes good sense to me. At one point, I thought about going with dual split lenses (one amber/red and one amber/white) to cover all 4 functions, but ultimately decided to drop the reverse lights. So, I am putting my money on a "stock" look (euro also, I suppose). I have a little ways to go on this, as you can see in the picture. One day at a time...
