1975 Carrera FUCHS - What is right?
I need some help. Just about every 1975 Carrera I see advertised, at shows, or the track have black pedal FUCHS.
I have a 1975 and want to track down the OEM wheels 15 x 7 & 15 x 8. I know I can have any refinished, but don't care to do that. I am running 7's & 9's now and only want OEM's for historical purposes. So, if anyone can attach photos of what the ORIGINAL FUCHS look like, I would appreciate it. Black pedals? They aren't polished, that I know, but do they resemble RSR finish wheels? The other thing I am trying to determine is how to determine the production date of the wheels. Not all are clear. I have seen a set that read 0185 (Jan 1985 I assume) but the other read something like 4581. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Here are some pics from my 75 Carrera with 33k original miles. This was a one owner car that was basically stored most of its life. I believe these to be original, unrestored wheels. Hope they help to answer some of your questions.

It's an anodized finish, with black paint on the spokes and insets. The RSR finish is different. Polished is different, too.

My '76 912E had anodized rims and petals with black painted background. To me, I think that the petals should match the color of the window trim to look right. However, weren't the Fuchs on that vintage Carrera painted to match the Carrera graphics on the car?

No, original was black pedals for 1975 US Carreras, although you will see quite a few owners later painted to match the graphics.

7 & 8 x15 as shown in Poorsh's post above were oem options on my '76, anodized lip, black painted centers.
I'm a bit confused as to which ones were painted, as far as I know only the '73 2.7 RS ever came w/ red, blue or any color other than black or silver back in those days the Carrera 7 & 8 x15 wheels were available several different ways 1) unvarnished( not sure what the bead finish would be on this one) 2) bead polished, black laquered center 3) anodized bead, black laquered center polished wheels don't have the protective anodized layer and will need to be spiffed up on a regular basis, bare naked aluminum will quickly oxidize in air.
