Install 964 struts in an earlier car?
Wondering if it would be easier to fab up a way to mount 964 struts in a Torsion bar car to get the bigger brakes then the whole adapter method for the calipers?
I was thinking ditch the spring and associated hardware. I guess the off set of the wheels coming from the hub would mean you would need to run later wheels. Not that great but maybe not a deal killer I do like cup 1s. How do they attach at the bottom? Is it significantly different? Bored at work.....

How big a brake do you need? Can you convert to struts.. sure.. 935 style front suspension conversion kits are out there. I'm sure the folks at Elephant Racing have some ways to use your money
Whats the end goal?

A bigger rotor is the goal. The front is already a strut? I want to stay with T bars just stick a 964 strut/hub assembly in there.
You would need to figure out how to 1.) Connect the strut cartridge at the top (easy I think..) 2.) Connect the bottom of the strut to the A arm 3.) Connect the outer tie rod to the steering arm. Now that I think about it 1 adapter to put the caliper on and a custom hat to use 3 piece rotors is looking relatively easy :-) If I upgrade I would probably just bolt on Carrera calipers and rotors but ....I was day dreaming :-)

you do realise that all the normal 964s still need an adaptor to use big brakes?
read through this thread for details on 964 brakes it isn't a big deal to use a caliper adaptor, it's not ideal but it does work lastly, 930 or the new Zuffinhouse 917 calipers do not need caliper adapters

If you need bigger brakes then just do that. VCI has a way of doing the brake conversion. I have them and they're very effective, albeit a bit pricey.
There's way to much difference in the strut attachments and the control arm design to adapt the 964 strut to an earlier 911 ![]()

unfortunately Kevin posted a pic which shows a turbo/RS upright not a normal 964 upright.
correct pictures of each can be seen in the thread I referred to

Sorry about the improper pic. That's the only picture the software provides in relation to the front hub

I just find the 930 stuff to be way high priced for me. Its probably false economy's I would be better off with a pre-engineered kit in the long run.

Steve Timmins offers a different take on this brake conversion.
