G50 coupler when engine dropping?

Hi guys about to drop the engine but worried about the coupler connection from the gearbox through the car, if I lower the engine will it jam in there?

As you lower the engine you also have to back it out. It' a tight fit as you have noticed (yet another benefit of a 915). Go slow through the crucial bit.

I was told I can drop the engine about 4 inches with a partial engine drop but it really doesn't make sense as you have to back the engine out a fair distance anyway. I spose there's no easy way to do this (removing the shift rod), I also haven't heard anyone talk about removing the rear sway bar that I'm pretty sure will be in the way when the engine comes down. Wish I could get my hands on the bentley manual! Not easy to come by over here.

if I remember correctly, put the trans in a gear that moves the coupler to the back of the car, then disconnect the coupler, you may have to move the rubber boot around to get in there, helps to have the inside panel off to look and see what is going on

There is a 13mm bolt that hold the coupler to the transmission. You can acess it from under the car if you remove it you don't have to fight with the coupler and everything will drop straight down not like the earlier cars where you have to bring it down and out in an angle.

yes, if disconnected in the correct gear you can drop the engine straight down or very close to that

Any idea which is the correct gear to be in ? It seems like 1st , or one at the top would push it back.

I can't remember which direction pushes the trans. rod in... if you take the inside cover off and watch you will see

I did a 3.2/G50 drop a few months ago. The G50 coupler is a very tight fit through the hole in the tunnel. You need to drop the engine/trans down and also roll it back at the same time. Again it's a very tight fit but it'll go through no problem.

I'm pretty sure the rear bumper needs to be removed from the car to do this. I'm not 100% sure on this but I do know it makes it alot easier - especially if you're using jackstands and jacks to remove the engine/trans from the car.
