P258 Any intrest in a repo.

I have been toying with this in my head for a year now and finally sat down and have gotten this going....If I were to make a batch of these how much if any intrest would there be? They would be made from measurments of a real P258 and would include the set blocks for 901/911 & 915 and would include the sleeves for the bearings etc. I still have quite a bit of work to do and haven't got a price worked out. If your intrested let me know....

I am interested at a reasonable price.

john walker's workshop 12-18-2008 04:49 PM

i need some pieces to complete my set.

RSBob 12-18-2008 06:00 PM

Ok, I will confess that I am an idiot about trannys (and a few other things - like women). What exactly is a P258 and what does it do?

911quest 12-18-2008 06:44 PM

It's for setting Pinion depth.

As for a price not sure depends on how many diffs I have to find....

John what parts are you needing??

john walker's workshop 12-18-2008 07:12 PM

this is all i have of this set.

the P258 is the super expensive magic tool that you have to have to do a real complete trans. rebuild - is that right?

Not that P258 is all that cheap, but the ultra expensive magic tool you're thinking of is VW 385 I believe? It looks like this

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1229698812.jpg

I'd be interested in a P258, as i'll need it for a G50 Note that VW 385 is the tool that now supersedes the P258. Not cheap either.........

Here's some more information to let people know what this tool is all about, and why they may want to buy one

I have a few 901 diff carriers if they would be useful for the project.

911quest 12-21-2008 04:18 PM

Jamie I'll probably do that if there becomes more desire for these. I'll let you know.

Tony

euro911sc 12-21-2008 06:49 PM

Nice work Tony! I'm interested. What ballpark cost are you thinking on? If someone gives you an open diff what price then?

Thanks!

-Michael

tab tanner 12-21-2008 06:53 PM

interested as well!!

911quest 12-21-2008 07:06 PM

I haven't come up with a price yet due to a few unknowns like Metric dial indicators the steel stock for the bearing sleeves etc... I'm going to try my hardest to keep them under 400.00 and that will be complete ready to go. We have a whole barn full of early 911/914 transmissions so finding diffs isn't a big deal If I get enough intrest I might just make it a core situation...

MotoSook 12-21-2008 07:42 PM

I have a couple of 915's I will be rebuilding. Would love to have the tool. Put me down for a set if the price isn't too much.

911quest 04-29-2009 11:02 AM

Guy's I'm getting closer on these all is left to do is the knurled handle......I guess I need a head count on how many people are still interested. looks like they are going to be 500.00 it takes alot more machine shop hours then I first thought it would take. The tool will include a metric dial indicator.

Thanks,
Tony

jpnovak 04-29-2009 11:11 AM

I am still interested.

euro911sc 04-29-2009 06:24 PM

I'm out. Just broke a drive shaft yesterday... $800 ea. side replacement :(

Maybe I can rent one when the time comes :)

Best regards,

Michael

rvanderpyl 04-29-2009 08:38 PM

I would take one, let me know when you want money, and how to pay

KTL 04-29-2009 10:21 PM

Tony,

I'd still be in, but i'll be honest that it'd be wise for Souk and I to split cost and share it amongst our local brethren. You still in for one Souk?

Also, have you looked at the possibility of including an adapter like is used for the G50 carrier? I really need it to function with a G50! :D

I am ready to pay Tony... just 2 q's...does it come w/ some type of storage box so it does not get damaged between uses and secondly, I guess the info is on pelican somewhere how to use this properly...?
Great job & follow thru here Tony...can't wait to see the pics tomorrow... ready to buy...
Bob

911quest 12-29-2009 02:15 PM

Here are some pictures of the finished tool it also comes with two sleeves for the 915 bearings. As of now no nice wooden box I will if more people step up and want one. Each tool will be checked next to the original in a transmission to make sure that they have consistent measurements. Each tool & measuring block are made to each other and can not be switched. I have the block for a Sporto so there is a possible to have that as an option.
