Speaker help.

I have a an 88 coupe. I have been reading past posts via the search function, but can't find an answer. I am trying to update my speakers. The rears are Denon DCS-461, and I will probably find something similar. (suggestions?) The hard part is the front. It has two speakers in the door. I am not sure if this was OEM, but it appears the PO replaced the large ones and removed the smaller ones. Is anyone familiar with these, and are there replacements that would pop into these frames. I plan on replacing the crappy blingy head unit in the future, but don't want to drop all the money at once.

I hope to have a nice system in the end, so don't want to short change myself now.
Also, is it common to replace the old amp under the seat? It seems in one post I read, that they just bypassed it and went directly to a new head unit that had more power than the old head unit.
This is a daily driver, and I enjoy my tunes, as well as the music of a flat 6. The wife just likes tunes

Thanks for any help.

Cheers,
Emerald

You might find something at midwestelectronics.com. I been thinking about upgrading my system. I have read the Blaupunkt THX 462 speakers fit the rear speaker holes. Good luck

Thanks for the link, I'll have to check it out.
Hoping someone can share some insight in the small ones that are missing.
I may have to go the component route.

Thanks,
Emerald

Your new head unit will probably come with a built in Amp. You can remove the old unit under the passenger seat, and use this as the junction point for the speaker wires.

Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the heads up Newsboy. I am planning on replacing the head unit, and simplifying things will be nice.

Nice system imcarthur, not sure it fits my budget at the moment, but very nice still.

Cheers,
Emerald

Here's the link for creating speaker adapters for a 6.5 speaker in the front doors (if that's your inclination)..
Mounting door speakers.

As for the tiny tweeters in the doors, I got a pair of Polk Audio tweeters (sorry...can't remember the model) that literally pressed right into the factory mount like it was designed for it.

As for the rest of your components, I'd just start searching the threads with the keywords:
speakers
amplifiers
head unit

There is a ton of info on this board, it just takes some creative searching to find it at times.

Thanks for the tip on the Polks. I decided to take the small mounts out, and sure enough they have a 911 part number on them. I figure I will carry it with me to a stereo shop and see what fits. The search helps, but it does take some creativity. Sometimes I get lots, other times, not so much.
The Focals seem popular and a good speaker. Maybe someone has adapted a set of 165's to the existing factory two grill setup.

Cheers,
Emerald
