Blue tooth intercom- Do you need it?
Here is a new idea I have been kicking around for a while and finally found someone that is capable of making it for me. It is a blue tooth intercom for in car communication with your passenger. It is very much like a Motorola HS850 ear piece but has the capability of connecting with another ear piece for full duplex person to person communications.
Over the years I have often noticed that when my wife and I are in the Targa, top on or top off we have to raise our voices to talk to each other. On long trips that can be very annoying and even result in a sore throat the next day, kind of like going to a football game. I didn’t like the idea of a walki-talki with all the button pushing and possible cross talk. I also didn’t like the idea of a wired system with the extra wires and stuff. What I have come up with is a wireless, small, easy to use, good sound quality unit that is not connected to the car or a helmet. You can get out of the car at your destination and still stay connected to your partner up to 33 feet away. You won’t get any interference from other units as your units are only paired to each other. I know for me and my wife these units have been working very good and has made our trips much more comfortable. They also double as regular cell phone answering device if you are so inclined. They will only come as paired sets including a charger and have a standby time of 100 hours and a talk time of 6 hours. The price is not fully set yet but they will retail for about $150.00 a pair. My big question is how many people in the car community would be interested in the product? I have received some interest from the bicycling community for the tandem riders but my main focus is the automotive people, sports cars, rodders and such. I talked to wayne about this and he suggested I throw something up on the board and see what everyone has to say. So, what say you? Jerry JM PRODUCT DESIGN |

Depending on the ear piece design (can it fit in your ear comfortably under a helmet?) they would be a great communicator for instructor / student at DE's.

It would probably fit under a helmet but that is not the intended target as there is already a helmet device of this type out there although much more expensive.

Well I guess the lack of interest answers my question.

Silliest thing I've ever heard, particularly since I'm of the elderly generation that thinks that a miniature telephone riding in anybody's ear (other than my tiny hearing aid) is terminally dorky. The 21st century version of the pocket protector or the belt-clip pager. Besides, my wife and I have no problem communicating in our Boxster with the top down, and who has _that_much to say to each other during a drive anyway?
Geek heaven.

Motorcycle riders use something to communicate while riding two up, although I haven't seen it yet since I don't have a need for one. My wife never rides with me. One is called the "Chatterbox." You might look into that if you don't already know about it. The motorcycle crowd might be where your goldmine is.
