Can a 95 993 Cassette radio interface with Ipod?

I know this is a cheesy question, but I'm a late bloomer. I'm learning and don't know much about wiring. The radio in question is a factory CR1 95 993 cassette deck w/o cd changer. Your expertise would be most appreciated.

Hi Charles V.

I Just ditched the factory HI FI Alpine 7807 from our '95 993 and installed a Pioneer DEH 7000-BT.

I am happy with the results! These Pioneer units have a nice interface with the IPOD that allows the head unit to control everything. I am also happy with the built in BlueTooth for the phone...although we can't upload the phone book from my wifes TREO 750...this is a common problem with the TREO's not being supported...

I am with you and think its amazing you want to keep the stock radio in the car (I think thats what you are trying to do) and yes you can hook up an ipod to any radio that has an input which is every radio. Its a matter of finding a company that makes the convertor. That I will leave for someone else and give you this bump.

Yes, you are correct!

I like the stock look. Its not the most high end, but in 20years they'll want 300 bucks for the real thing. I mostly see that it must be possible to connect to the CD input some way.

I use a cassette tape adapter for my iPhone in my '95. Works fine for me.

We have an interface that connects to the CD changer connector of your CR.
You control the interface with the controls of the CR, depending on the type you have an interface to iPod, USB stick or both !

Tick "English" on www.solisto.nl for more.

It like a light grey display. If it works for this radio I don't see why it would work with your carrera

if you have a cassette player, what you need is this....sounds ok...there are many brands that make a similar product. target has them

http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Cassette-Adapter-Player-Laptop/dp/B0000AOWVC/ref=pd_sim_e_njs_2

you will control the ipod by using the ipod, not the deck. with your radio, i do not believe there is any other way to connect the device

Dimefied,

I just installed a 996 unit in my '85. It's a cdr-220 or something like that. It's a Becker unit specially labeled for Porsche. I love it it looks great. I had to have the face plate modified by Becker U.S. for $100 and I bought the unit for $200 off of Craigs. I also bought the correct wiring to plug in to my existing and IPOD interface from Stephan at SW stereo. I was going to write this all up but went to a pro for the install. I came across a graet amp and needed help.
Anyhow it looks great/stock says Porsche sounds amazing won't play MP3 disks (only CD's) and my IPOD plugs in where the CD/Aux used to be.
Most of all it sounds incredible. Orange face.
Don't know about the 993 unit but I think the simplest would be someone elses suggestion w/a cassette interface. $10 bucks at radio hack.
By the way there are many write ups on the install that I did w/my unit. Try a search. I read everything first. Lot's of stuff on this.

Good luck,

Scott

How was the faceplate modified? I am very interested in installing a cdr-220 in there with ipod control.

The faceplate was modified to be backlit (orange) so that it could be seen more clearly from any angle. Apparently the faceplate was set up exclusively for the sitting position of the 996 and it is difficult to read in our cars. This is the explination that I was given. Becker USA is very used to this request and you provide a core and they send one back to you.
Becker was very helpful as was Stephan at S.W. Stereo. He will also reverse your faceplate for you.

I wonder if you could buy one from them outright modified with warranty? That would be a nice deal. I shall inquire. Now when you say backit orange, do you mean the text is black, and the background is orange? OR do you mean it used to be a black/white display like a calculator, and they changed it so the background is black, and the text is orange?
