Where did you get that kit? Can you post details of the kit? Any more pictures from the construction? What size rims/tires are on there?

"ted" - I like what you did to your car and I followed the build, but I'm looking for something less racey than the EVO kit. I'll shoot John an e-mail to see if he has a wide body kit that isn't so EVO ;) |
Boy Souk, I think your A.D.D. is worse than mine! :) I like the cut of your jib though, there's nothing that looks better than a 993.
|
Nah...A.D.D....is just a small part of it. I've been planning the 993 conversion for at least a couple of years, and collecting parts for it. I'm leaving the Carrera (aka Fat Bastard) as a CTR replica, and I'll just play with horsepower on it.
The original "Bastard" is the chassis getting the 993 conversion. I've got parts for a 73RS look if I decide one day to swap the 993 parts out. So Bastard will have two personalities, and I can bolt/un-bolt them on the chassis depending on how the mood strikes me :D ... so maybe not A.D.D....more like schizophrenic. |
Too funny Souk! I suppose it's not A.D.D. if you're just "remodeling" the same cars you already own instead of buying & selling.
My vote is for a flat/satin black 993 wide body, that would look really mean. |
A matte black wide body 993 would be cool....but I'm think of something else :D The 73 RS panels may be matte black...or John Deere Blitz Black.
Those of you who did the 993 conversion and used the 993 headlights, where did you get the connector for the headlight? I managed to find a rear light harness, but I'm missing the connectors for the headlights and front turn/marker lights. I'm setting up the car for 95% track duty, so I need it to be street legal for the other 5%....so all lights are going on. |
Here are some older pictures of mine. I believe this conversion was done about 10 years ago so I had nothing to do with it. The body guys did a great job, whoever did the electrical (Probably the body guys) should be punished. I'm not sure how other people have done it but the bumper cover (and fenders) on my car is taller where it meets the hood than the original so the hood is at the correct height at the cowl and raised about an inch at he latch. So the seal makes contact at the cowl and falls away from the hood as it goes forward. I haven't figured out a way around this yet. It apparently didn't bother the previous owners and there is still no rust in the trunk. I actually pulled it on a trailer through about 1000 miles of stormy weather and it was dry when I got home. I drove it a few months later in a heavy rain and I did find some moisture though. The other major complication is the aluminum screen they used on the engine cover; I really need to find an alternative.

Do you guys think these are 18's or 19's? I really like these wheels.

Souk;
Sounds good but how are you going to find the time with everything else that you have going on? Looking forward to seeing this completed project at a cars and coffee. |
Mike,
The '76 chassis is already stripped. I've been waiting to get the body panels fitted so I can start cutting and welding. It's at the top on my project list...and the wifey wants it done too. I think she thinks that I will sell one of my cars once the Bastard is finished :) -944parts: do a search for "Princeton Wong" here on Pelican or go here: http://www.houston-imports.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=123&Item id=35#5 |

Those wheels are Kinesis K29, which are a minimum of 18" diameter http://www.kinesismotorsports.com/ I always forget how good-looking a 993 is when I haven't seen one in a while. Souk's made a good choice going 993. That's one fine looking 911! |
Here is my 993 wide body conversion on a 78 SC chassis.
Link to the thread here on Pelican http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/275995-my-race-car-project-finally-finished.html http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1234300324.jpg |
Given the economy, I would have to take a hit on the parts I have to sell as well as the chassis I have. I'd likely net less than what a used 993 will cost today. It would take me months to get rid of everything with packing and running to the shipping store. And if I don't get things off in time, then folks start posting unhappy threads in the Classifieds as we've seen often enough.
My goal is to build a race car the way I want it. Building a race car isn't necessarily smart when folks are trying to liquidate their race toys these days, but I'll have less into this project than someone who's building a similar car because I've been collecting parts for the last few years. In the end the car will be to my spec in every aspect, not some tired track whore that's seen a couple seasons of track running, built to someone else's spec or idea of what's right for a race car. Sure my time is valuable, but I don't owe it to anyone to make this happen next month or next year. So if the family calls...I can drop everything and go tend to their needs. Without a big wad of cash waiting around for a 993 purchase, I'm doing this as funds become available and picking up parts I need at prices I'm willing to pay. I do my own welding and fabrication, and I enjoy doing it. I will learn to paint and I'll enjoy doing that. I build my own engines which I really enjoy doing, esp. when I can make more power than a stock 993 with less money then what a 3.6 conversion goes for these days. This is a hobby...and I'd imagine there are plenty of hobbiests here that would agree with me. In the end, I might have spent more than what a tired 993 might go for, but I'll have a freshly built, light and capable car that I built with my own hands which will be faster than a stripped down 993. |
Yes! I remember reading the Excellence article.
Very nice! Quote:

Is that guy on the phone in the back talking to his broker?
"Yea - I know my portfolio has taken a hit, but I really, really need the carbon fiber valve stem caps - they are so cool and for the love of God - do not tell my wife." Guess who? Outlaw 911 |
I can't really think of a more appropriate place to post this so,
I'd really like to get rid of My CupII wheels and get something wider in the rear. Unfortunately it looks like I need very nearly a 0 offset wheel to get rid of my 1" (26MM) spacer and get the width (10.5 or 11") I'd like. At the same time I'd really like to not spend $700+ a wheel but 10"+ wheels and 130x5 seem to go hand in hand with high price tags. Does anyone know any manfacturers that I should look for? I love the Works MS1 but it's just too much money. I'd be happy running Turbo Twist repros but I'd need more than 2" of spacer and that just seems absurd. Any repros you guys know of that are closer to fitting the bill? |
vreference: I don't know if you're going to find a low cost solution to 10"+ wheels. Check with Jeff Alton...tell him Souk sent you to ask about Kodiak wheels.

I have a set of Kinesis Supercups which are replicas of the famous Speedline 993RS wheel. They are currently 8 & 9.5 x 18 I just ordered new stainless steel bolts and could have some hoops made to fit and fill your wheel wells with this stylish highly sought after set of wheels. I am thinking I could move the rear outer hoop which is 2.5" to the front outer wheel making a 9.5" front wheel and after measuring your car could oder a new pair of outer hoops say a 5.25 or 6" to fill the well. If you have interest and want to discuss further. jdorociak@gmail.com

Souk , I'm in the process of the converting the 83sc to 993 wide body , all steel panels all oem , exept aftermarket wing (gt ) and some gt style rockers .If I would started again -I would buy a salvage 993 and worked with it .It took so much time to do the conversion the right way -all steel panels welded and solded (little bondo ) , all oem bumpers , all custom bumper rebars , custom wiring -lights , xenon .spacers ,custm cayneen wheel hub , custom painted 19" wheels , custom interior , a lot of relocations and cuttings .I have a body shop and still a big deal for me to finish this car right way .Car is finaly primered (2 times epoxy ,3high build ) and waiting to be wet sanded and prepared for paint .

Wow Alex. That looks like a lot of work. Looks like the hard part is done (the welding and sanding) Good luck with the rest of the project.
I'm not going to try to make a 993. This will be a race car with bolted on panels with struts and braces where needed. It'll look like a 993, but it won't fool anyone. Here's one that was built using an early chassis: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1234329517.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1234329533.jpg And one that just screams at me...(from Cory's RL thread) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1234329670.jpg |
I love that gulf color scheme
Outlaw 911; If I am guessing right your the guy with a great garage and several car projects, non of which that run! |
