Souk, what kind of tail are you going to use on Wide Bastard?
|
kojo: look forward to seeing the pictures. Thanks!
Jim: I have a 993 ducktail that I intend to add a GT2 wing to. I don't have the wing yet. After all the fitting is done and struts make to keep everything in place at speed, I'll start messing around with the wind and how it'll be integrated with the duck. Hopefully, it'll look similar to a GT3... http://cdn2.worldcarfans.co/2008/2/m...10.Mini4L2.jpg |
Nice wing, Souk...it'll look like it could fly, ja. ‪Volkswagen: Un-pimp Your Ride III‬‏ - YouTube

BTW, perhaps these could be your Wide Bastard's next set of wheels

The crazy offset means I have to go with 3 piece wheels, Jim :( I have some BBS Motorsport magnesium wheels (one set), but I'll probaly get some CCW wheels for the rain tires. The more I work on this dang car, the more my bank account moans and groans. The price of "doing it my way."

Just got my GT-2 fender flares and rockers, should be getting the car back from the painter so I can fit and install then give back to him to finish painting. I also still need to finish the interior and install a new stereo system and find a way to mount focal utopia 3-way components behind the factory 993 hifi door panels.

Great tread .
A question for all the 993 and 993 turbo body conversions. I have a 1989 with full, 993 factory steel turbo body. QUESTION- Is it possible to retain the rear torsion bars ? ( my car has a G50 transmission/ short torsion bars) . I dont see how there is any space to remove them since there is no access hole on the body now to remove and install the rear torsion bars. The only way I can see possible to remove them is by cutting them as I remove them. I have already had the reinforcements welded on the rear cross member ready for rear coilovers, just incase. Any suggestions |
John Simone also built my car , mine was the first one he did back in 1996 , I had to cut my bars out after the rebody, I also went with G50 and coilovers , started out as 76 911S and is from 1996 to 2012 and soon to be in Excellence Mag .

I also have g50 (1988) with on going 993 turbo conversion (gt2). I have the torsion bars. You will need hole in the fenders to remove the torsion bars, but if you use gt2 flares they will cover the holes you will need to make to get them out. |
Update: since I've not had much time to finish this project, the body parts, including carbon fiber doors are now for sale! I have over $10,000 in to the parts. They include what you see here with doors suitable for mounting glass frames and have pockets inside. I will post pictures later.
I will post pictures of the parts as they are today to show the minimal mounting holes from my preliminary mounting. Anyone interested, make me an offer on the whole package. I can deliver in my enclosed trailer within a few hours drive if you pay for fuel. I'm in the Chicagoland area. I'll post an add in the classifieds. I need this sold soon....have the "other" 993 race car project coming home soon :) Quote:

I wish I had the money and that Finland was a short drive for you to deliver :(

Hey Jim!! This is the most recent pic, Put in a front RSR scoop and welded in a front tub nose off a 964 to get the front bumper installed correctly. Had the 915 tranny built to handle the 3.6L and had a wavetrac installed and plumbed for an external tranny cooler. Ran into some weird electrical problem so it had been sitting for awhile while since I was doing a few VW projects. Finally got it sorted out and took her for a spin around the block. Just need to finish fitting the front bumper then get it back to the painter the finish the paint job. Hopefully very soon it will be done and you'll see me commuting everyday with it on the 101 to Ventura!
