will discs and calipers from 90 c2 work on 67

does anyone know if the discs and calipers from a 90 c2 bolt up on a 67 or what about a 78sc ? is it a direct swap or will there be any custom adapter needed to mount caliper? any one got any input on this? thanks

There is a thread on SWB brakes, and options. Do a search on SWB Brakes to find it, however the short answer is: You need adapters for both the front and rear. SC brakes are easier to fit than C2 but neither are bolt in.

Most likely your early ride will have 3 inch calipers.....

While I don’t know much about ’90 C2 configuration, fitting any brake to a SWB front strut is fairly easy.

Unlike the ’69 and later struts, the SWB strut has a separate part as a caliper mount. This is easily fabricated from a piece of ¼“ steel plate. You can create any caliper bolt spacing and radius. I made a set to fit the larger diameter 908 rotors and aluminum ‘S’ calipers to my SWB (41 years ago) before I converted to the ’69 and later front suspension.

With SWB, fitting larger rear brakes is the more difficult issue. There are several (heavy) adaptor designs posted. My choice would be to modify one (not both) of the cast steel mounting ‘ears’ on the banana.

With a high-stress application like yours, I would use the opportunity to reinforce the bananas and the center section of the torsion bar tube. You can even make the mod where you can remove the banana without removing the transmission first.

Best,
Grady

After decades (since ’73) of discussion with my friend who has a race SBC in his (our?) SCCA 914 (noted in ’76 Christophorus), light weight and low CG are the key. This is even more important with a 911 conversion.

While I’m not enthusiastic about other engines in Porsches, I understand the allure and performance. If it has to be done, I want it done right. There are all sorts of lightweight SBC and later II parts.

The critical decisions are to have the lightest weight engine possible and move everything forward and down. There are techniques to allow a rear engine and transmission to move forward several inches.

It is even possible to build a 911 with the SBC mid-engine. Really cool.

Yes, big brakes are important. On the other hand, any 912 brake will stop this … once or twice. The key is in your use. If you intend very ‘sporting’ driving, then you need the best Porsche brakes. That means the greatest heat dissipation. Brimbo also makes huge brakes that can be adapted.

For track use, that is another subject.

Best,
Grady

The brakes will fit about as easily as the motor
