Need weights on fenders and hood

I have a 1991 964 turbo. Does anyone know the stock weight of the fenders and hood? I am considering swapping to fiberglass. I want to make sure it is worth the hassle for the weight savings.

Thanks!

Sorry don't know the exact figure for a 964 but from building my project ('68) I can say that the fiberglass is very light compared to the stock fenders and hood. I hear that TRE motorsports and Getty both make good options.

I know that some racing classes (I think vintage?) require stock/steel body parts.

I am looking at the MA Shaw items. I just want to know the bottom line to decide if the trade off is worth it to me. Fiberglass is never as nice as stock so that is a deciding factor

do a search on fiberglass fenders. there were a few threads that talked about exact weights. they also discussed the trade offs if you put undercoating, etc on your glass fenders to prevent paint stars/chips happening from the back side. if I find the particular thread I'm thinking of, I'll post the link.

LOL THANKS! I have not seen anything on the 964 turbo fenders, but I may have missed it on my searches.

First, that would be a shame to do that to a C2 Turbo unless it is a rat. There is some many other mods that result in real improvements.

I believe GT-Racing.com has notes in there catalog as to weight savings of hood and fenders.

I think a hood is about 35, forget fenders.

I am leaning away from the fenders. The car is a 46K mile pristine car. Only problem is it is a bit extreme now Huge turbo, air to water intercooler etc. Car lays down 650rwhp and 600 pounds of torque just under 15 pounds and a mild pump gas tune. When it gets turned up that is a different story

Especially if you drive on the street, I'd avoid the fiberglass fenders. The weight savings isn't phenomenal, and the chip rate will make you nuts.

Hi
I have a 1970 ST replica my bonnet came down from 17kg to 5kg and i could have made it lighter. Boot lid from 11 kg to 2.5 kg. I have not made front fenders but if you do some math it should be around 13-15 kg each and can go down to around 4. Note i used carbon on all my panels but the weight difference between carbon and fibreglass will be very little.

Looks like the hood will drop around 30 pounds. I think I will stick with that, and keep my steel fenders

I've got a '82 911 SC hood and front fender loose out in my shop, I'll weigh 'em for you. That's gotta be pretty close to yours. Unless you're into counting grams and ounces anyways.

That would be awesome! I think the hood is the same? The fenders should be close!

Thanks!

Feel my pain and see the "dead red car" a 1982 SC.

70 year old lady pulled out in front of me her going the wrong way on a one way street. Ford Taurus Wagon against my 911, guess which one won and who lost. and then to add insult to injury, when her airbags went off she FLOORED the gas and pushed us 40 feet backwards................yeah it was a bad day.

So, the hood and fenders have been pulled, and I'm parting out the whole car if anyone needs parts. HINT HINT, PM me if interested.

Enough of the story behind why the hood and fenders are loose.

Passenger fender weight: 26 pounds - No head light bucket, no antenea, only factory undercoating? and/or a bit of road grime.

Hood weight: 34 pounds. - no hinges, no underhood pad, hood emblem intact, under hood light there.....a bit of paint chipped off.......sigh.

Car died, we lived but both wife and I are pretty banged up.

Everyone cherish your health, and smile next time you're carving up a corner in your P-car for me.

Glad to help...........the P-car group is an Awesome crowd to share the love, and pain, with.

Smile for me, the spirit of the dead red car lives on.

Digital bathroom scale was used for weights.

I weighed my parts when installing fiberglass stuff.

1987 911 factory hood = 34 lbs
MA Shaw fiberglass hood = 11 lbs.

So net savings is 23 lbs

MS road race told me that a factory 964 turbo fender weighs 15 pounds. Does this sound right? How was the fit on the MA shaw hood?

Fitment of hood is quite good. It's a little thick around the edges, so it doesn't sit flush with the fender and cowl edges. Other than that, no complaints. I actually did nothing to it- just bolted it onto the hinges with no need to trim/shape anything.
