Thx Gabe, alot of kudos flying around today, so back at ya, you and ur DZug boys
are coming up with really cool retro 70's 934-935 stuff, need to order that 917 era gas pedal soon, can't wait to stomp on it!!!! "porsches are like dogs, always findin the tail and sniffin each others ass" http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312304551.jpg |
Any more progress man? I hope so. I got a little bit more done on mine too. It's all posted on funfgruppen. Getting ready for the cage next month and the beginning on the motor tear down!!!
Chris |
Hi Chris, just waiting on the fabwork to be finished on the intercooler and tank and then will bring back home to put all the fuel and oil lines, pumps as well as wiring, instruments, etc.... into car... feels like winters not far off here anway..
Will defintely check out your progress over on funf...... L8TR................................ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1315925144.jpg |
I wish you started with an uglier car. I'd be sad if this turned out like crap, but it didn't! Niiiiiiccccceeeee!!!!!!!
|
Starting to make a little progress again as winter is approaching. The water intercooler and the water tank are in. Water pump still needs to be mounted up.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1320202685.jpg Alot of fabwork to still be done as well as welding on the lines from the intake to the intercooler and out to the turbo and so forth...... maybe this kit will do it ....... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1320202895.jpg With all the fluid lines yet to run decided to start with the fuel stuff first. Pump is mounted , going to work my way laying out the lines from the rear. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1320203506.jpg Need to drill for some bulkhead fittings. Running the fuel lines just to the side of the center tunnel passengers side. Will post some more when I get finished with fuel lines and get the oil lines layed out. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1320203800.jpg |
awesome build. These builds keep me motivated on my race car project
Michael |
I totally forgot you cut out the rear bulkhead area. I'm thinking about the same for mine. I'm just a few steps (read a lot of money behind lol) behind you. Trying to see the pros and cons of it.
Awesome as always brother! Chris |
Hey Chris, I would only cut out the rear seat area if you are building a dedicated track car. The pro's are easier access to starter, trannie, engine, etc. Not much weight savings if any, my aluminum cover is not much less in weight than what I cut out. And unless you are putting in a cage it probably lessens a small amount the structural integrity in that area not to mention more noise. So if its really more of a street car I'd leave that area alone. L8TR, Tad
|
Tad, thanks man... Im thinking about it still. I like the idea of the easy access to the tranny, but the down side would definitely be if something blew apart. GrantG has a nice setup, here is a photo I found of it.. Im waiting on him to email me some more photos and hear what he has to say about it...

This is one of those feel good days where you think your getting somewhere on that never ending project. With a five year anniversary on this one coming up in february I'm pushing harder to have this rig runnin by spring. Did some fuel line and oil line routing and so forth. -8an for fuel and -20 supply and -16 return for oil lines, made holes for bulkhead fittings, reworked the original fuel return and feed to the accumalator with steel -8an fittings to hook up fuel lines.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1321843239.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1321843384.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1321843448.jpg Going to run three front oil coolers since I'm at altitude, can always run with blockoffs in cool weather if necessary. Welded up a frame for the center oil cooler and made a cover screen semi protective cover for the center oil cooler mainly because it so close to the ground . Need to fab up brackets for the side oil coolers next. Also mounted up the scavenge pump for the turbo since doing away with the cam driven pump. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1321844466.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1321844585.jpg Using a fender oil cooler for my radiator for the water cooling to the intercooler on the passenger side and the tank being directly behind it makes for a short feed on lines. Will draw air from the right side naca duct into the radiator and have a fan I may mount to draw additional air if necessary. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1321845281.jpg Also mounted the breather tank, oil filter and the thermostat. Will finish hooking those up once I get the outside oil coolers mounted. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1321845890.jpg Ok, going over all this made me thirsty...........beer break..........L8TR..... |
Good lord Tad. You are killing it over there. Man, progress feels great doesn't it?
|
I have a quick question I hope you don't mind answering?
I am about to stick some bolt on arches to my Boxster racing car and not sure what type of fasteners to use - do you have some details on the ones you have used for your arches? Been following with interest from the start BTW, great attention to detail... |
Hi Paul, I used small 3mm hex head bolts, couple washers and locknut. Most people use rivets which is probably better for racing in that you can change out a flare piece much quicker. I was having some cracking issues with my flares so went with the bolts so I could vary the tightness and relieve stressed areas around the flares. Hope this helps some, good luck and be patient working with that fiberglass, it can become a mess real quick. Cheers, Tad
|
Cool, thank you... I will probably do the same as you. I want to be able to easily remove them when I need better access.
|
two thumbs up!!!!
|
Figured out how I wanted to mount the two outside oil coolers. Mounting to three points on side of frame. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1323395205.jpg
Everything pretty tight to line up with the outter air inlets and still be able to connect fittings and hoses. With three oil coolers in series its going to be a challenge to get everything to fit. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1323395818.jpg Oil coolers are covered to protect the fins with all the in and out for fitment. One side welded up and painted and ready for hoses. Will get the other side done and get going on the lines up front next... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1323396249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1323396408.jpg Will line up with valence well .... bottom bar will be good to help support the air duct for the brake cooling http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1323396544.jpg |
This build and Zuluracerx's are the bar by which all others should be measured by. Well, I could list a couple more (TRE involved), but don't want to come out looking too envious ;):D:rolleyes:
Once I am done with this new condo, I am hoping to fulfill a long time dream (fat bodied old school 911). Just in time for my 40th birthday too http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/ura.gif |
any news?

Thanks Tom for reminding me to update. Finished up all the oil and fuel lines and got everything routed and hooked up.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330298920.jpg Used 90 deg bulkhead on sides to keep lines as close to inside as possible http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330299125.jpg Line going to outside cooler and routes inside bumper down to center cooler, then routes out of the right side cooler and back to thermostat and to tank. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330299259.jpg Lines run for the turbo scavenge pump and drip tank. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330299564.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330299623.jpg Mounted the water pump for the intercooler http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330299755.jpg Mocking up the radiator mounts and will make supports to hold it next and run the water lines. Need to modify the cover so naca ducts in the quarter windows can flow air the radiator. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330300290.jpg Mounted cutoff switch. Should be able to start car wiring soon. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330300845.jpg |
Tad, amazing as always man. I just got my doors in the other day and now on to the front half of the cage (don't want to cut up $$$ doors) and then on to the air jack system.
I really want to see you car in person man. I vote you finish it, then drive it to next years 12h of Sebring. This way you can stop at my house and I can see it. :) ;) Take care brother Chris |

Project hit 5th year
February marked my fifth year on this project and the list is getting alot shorter finally. Got all the water lines run for the intercooler and radiator, tank and pump. Need to run it and test for leaks.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1331250547.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1331250614.jpg Need to make raised cover with duct lines going to the naca ducts in the quarter windows. Main Item Remaining: Transmission: Hookup cv joints, clutch cable, omega spring, shifter linkage. Engine: Fabricating the piping from engine to intercooler and turbo Wiring: Using the ISIS intelligent multiplex system, solid state, less weight and wire, can do away with multiple relays and its very adaptable. Install time is shorter and much cleaner after the fact. Over the last couple of years it was always the goal to get the car running by summer. Obviously I did not accomplish that but it kept me plugging along and this summer definitely seems like it might really be possible. |
Decided to weld up a different bracket for my center oilcooler. Did no have good access to the oil lines for repairs. Made the bracket where it can fold out, good access for the lines etc..
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333681778.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333681853.jpg Bumper and valence remove as one piece for loading on trailer. Got the ISIS multiplex wiring system today. Deciding on locations for the mastercell and the two powercells. Will post the wiring install when I get further into it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333682427.jpg Mastercell http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333682526.jpg Front powercell http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333682621.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333682672.jpg Rear powercell behind seat |
ISIS multiplex system install
Got started with the electrical system install this last week. The locations did not change much from my first thoughts except for the front cell which I made a bracket and center mounted, easier access.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334584617.jpg Rear Powercell http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334584698.jpg Front Powercell: you can see location for 10 fuses, 5 on each side, same on rear powercell. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334584749.jpg Mastercell: The brain of the system, tells the powercells basically what to turn on and off. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334584939.jpg 8 gang switch panel, switch functions are programmable. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334585128.jpg For a race application 8 switches is more that adequate, lightweight and only 4 wires to operate the functions. Small yellow cable from mastercell to switches. The whole ISIS system in the box was only 14lbs. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334585415.jpg Megafuses: Megafuses protect the system. The large red wires are the power supply to the powercells. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334585894.jpg Megafuse 4 ga wire feed needs to be as short to battery as possible. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334586386.jpg Total of six wires on each side. Ten are for items to be powered and a black wire on each side goes to ground. Each items negative wire will go to ground as well. This is not a lot of wires to deal with and once hooked up and loomed should look nice and neat. Will post more after I finish the front wiring and get to rear powercell which will be bulk of work to be done. |
Cool stuff. How do you program the ISIS system?
|
Awsome work Tad! keep it coming
|
To really set up the system the way you want and be able to make changes to the standard system you buy the incode programmer $180. Company website ISIS Intelligent Multiplex System - Automotive Wiring Harnesses, Car Wire Harness, Engine Wiring Harness, Auto Wiring Harness, Truck Wiring Harness, Car Wiring Kits.
|
Thank you for the link. A bit confused, this would not replace the main harness from the DME to the engine as well and the main engine harness will it?
|
Tad, the car looks great. You're making great progress on getting the cells mounted. This will be a very clean install when it is finished.
We'll get you some suggestions today on wiring your disconnect switch. Jay |
Nice fab work and great looking car.
Do you have any details on the red circled area in the pic below? Did you fab that up yourself? How does the ducting work and where is the drain for water? Looking for some type of venting.draining system for my car. Thanks - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334675342.jpg |

Vent encloser is one from smart racing and yes I think they are no longer in business. Krogger you were asking about the DME and the ISIS system. The ISIS system would not replace your DME.

Porsche 934 935 reinforcement sheets
Hi,
made some sets of copies for my project of a pair of original 934 / 935 reinforcement sheets for he luggage compartment, see pics. Currently in fabrication ist the front aluminium cross and the fiberglass fuel cell pan, pictures will follow..... Benno http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1335775386.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1335775417.jpg |
Hi Benno, very nice fabrication. So are you building a 934 or 935 replica or restoring a wrecked 934 or 935 to a replacement tub? Interested to so more of your project. TRE motorsport was making the fiberglass 935 fuel cell cover for the two front fuel cells if you need a source for that part.

Hey Tad,
I wanted to show you the amount of wire that we removed from Jim's 1999 996. We had this in a fish tank at our booth at SEMA last year. When he installed ISIS in his Porsche, he netted more than 30 pounds of weight reduction in the car. http://www.isispower.com/imagebase/s...1+06%3A13%3A23 I'll get more pictures of the car from him when he gets it back. Jay |
Jay, here is the wiring that came out of my car. Have not weighed it but I would not be surprised if its similar weight savings as Jim's 996

Sweet build!!!
Do you have wheels picked out yet? |
