Minimum ARB to Gearbox Clearance
Im making up some spacers for my rear ARB and want to make sure I provide enough clearance between the ARB and the gearbox cross member. The engine and gearbox clearly move around on their joints, but Im not sure by how much.
So what should be the minimum, say 5mm?

Pete,
this is how close my rear arb is to the cross member. Not entirely sure how big the gap is, but it should be quite close to 10 mm. ![]() ![]() HTH /Peter

Thanks Pete
That's a nice looking ARB system. Who makes that? Ive current got 15mm with the spacers, but plan to trim the spacers to give me say 6-10mm. I want the spacer to be as thin as possible to gove max ground clearance from ARB bracket to road.

Thanks Pete,
the arbs are partially home made. I got the parts for the arb (blades, tubes and some hardware) from a company in Sweden called Sellholm Tuning, the brackets I made myself, and a colleague did the welding. I was a little uncomfortable with the short distance between the ground and the aluminum brackets on my setup, but I've had no problems yet... The minimum distance between the transmission cross member and the arb depends on how hard your transmission mounts are. If you're running solid ones you could go as low as a couple of millimeters. /Peter

Good job Pete
I have the same concern. My mounts are currently stock. I have RSR Spring plates and RSR Coilovers, so I didnt want to stiffen everything up as she is mainly a road car with the odd trip to the track.

FWIW, mine touches the crossmember. I have a Weltmeister 22mm adjustable rear anti-roll bar mounted on a 1971 911S chassis using the factory brackets (reinforced) and some rubber transmission mounts (probably a little worn).
The occasional clunck does not really bother me as the car is so noisy already.

Sorry, none at the moment. It is going into the shop soon for a tune-up and headers so while it is on the lift, I will see if I can get a good photo. I am sure I cannot get a camera+my head under the sway bar in my garage.

Looks like your ground strap is disconnected.
