Some parts almost look too good to install (refinished flapper boxes)
I'm doing a major suspension upgrade with all the regular suspension porn (Elephant, Tarett, Sanders etc.), yet the parts I'm most enamored with are the one's I've refinished myself:
![]() My flapper boxes were shot. Picked these up off E-bay for $30 shipped. I bead-blasted and sprayed with VHT cast aluminum finish. Looks so good you almost hate to put them back on... Anyone have a crappy looking, but working pair of flapper boxes they are willing to sell ![]() Side note, I brought some parts in to be powder-coated. The guy who ran the place (big place, loads of business) recommended I use high temp paint over powder coating for the flapper boxes; we weren't sure what temps the boxes reached and he didn't want a dissatisfied customer. Right or wrong (regarding temps), I like that in a business (willing to turn away business to ensure a satisfied customer base). BTW - Relationship to the suspension project: "while you're at it" projects are taking as much time as the suspension work Gordo

I can relate having spent many hours polishing and refinishing bits of my car.
I bought some new wiper arms, caps and blades... They were so pretty they stayed on the shelf in the garage for about 12 months before I could bring myself to put them on the car... All I can say is get them on and admire them any time your under your car adjusting something or whatever... They do look good bty..

The "while you're in there" syndrome is what holds up most projects. I was going to just have my car painted & ended up disassembling the whole thing. You got off light.

I'm holding my head in shame. Pic included just to show you how good the work above is.

I wouldn't be ashamed of that. At least you saved it rather than buying a new one and with the coating it won't rust...

Now, if someone could come up with a way to keep the critters out if we forget to close 'em up in the winter. Beautiful work, guys.

I used high temp paint on my tin but didn't prep it very well and it is flaking in a few spots.

Flapper Box Rebuild materials
Hi, I have cleaned up all the metal parts of my flapper box. However, I don't know what kind of material (high temp plastic?) to use to as a 'sealing blade' on either edge of the internal flap, or as bushing/seals for the ends of the flat shaft that acts as the axis.
Anyone have any suggestions for me? |
