Like many porsches they are collectible if kept in original condition, 912E's are a collectible car by a dedicated group, you would not get a huge price for the car from the general public because it is a 912E.

By the way you should have by now googled jake raby and found out how much power can be made from your engine type (type 4), or otherwise have considered the 911 swap, which there was a good one for sale posted for you.

I think the car looks fine, the wheels, though not to everyone's taste are actually Strosek I believe. They are pretty high quality, and would look good on a 964 / 993. It is kind of an updated version of the teledials.

If you wanted to pursue, I believe a judge might find in your favor if the car was presented as a 911. If you can get the seller to admit that he sold it as a "base 911" you would have him- as you now know the 912 is actually a different model.

If it were me- I would find a lawyer to send him a certified letter to start (this is cheap to do). If it appears you have engaged in legal counsel he may buy the car back. This is good practice as a car guy anyways as it keeps pressure on bad guys in the business. You might be helping prevent another guy from getting ripped-off.

He may renegotiate price instead of a total buy-back as well.

If you still decide to keep the car, your best money spent is to do as folks are saying here- put on some more reasonable wheels, and drive the thing. Take her into the mountains and get a feel for the handling. I think you'll be surprised at how tossable it is.

Not trying to beat a dead horse here, but if you emailed with the seller prior to purchase using the same poor grammar you started here with, you certainly didn't help your case. He may have read you as someone lacking the sophistication to know what he was buying and was more likely to pull a fast one on you.

You're in college now, and your recent posts demonstrate that you can in fact converse intelligently. I would make sure I do that from now on- wherever the forum/chatroom.

Hey Prithvi...thanks for the head up on my Strosek rims...I googled them and they ARE expensive and alloys not heavy cheap steel rims. This thread is getting too long so Im gonna post what I found out about my rims in a new post. I still say my rims are bad azz and Im keepin em!

LOL, no, I think he did sort of OK, $5K for the car actually. I think the wheels are very Miami and some other kid down there will scoop them up for $1K.

In my math world, and this assumes the car is relatively fine, no major rust, etc.:

$5000 for the car
-$1000 for the wheels
-$2000 for the motor (with good leakdown #s)
+$1800 for 7x9x16s
+$6500 for a 3.2

Net on a kickass IROC would be $10,300 or so. Throw in some front Carrera calipers/rotors for $450 and you'd have a real car for reasonable money.

the price was probably right for a 912E in this condition. 4-5K would be my estimate.

the 912Es are not very collectable (except those low mile unmolested pristine examples do fectch decent money), but those who follow them are fanatic. the 912 on the other hand has become quiet collectable and prices have gone way up in the last 5 years.

what ever happened to cavat empator? and buyers resonsibility to do their leg work before they buy. anyone who would have done 10 mins of research would have seen that they did not have a 911 engine in the back, and anyone who saw the title as a 912E instead of a 911 should have seen the red flag and walked away.

no doubt that he got screwed, and my heart goes out to him for this bad situation, but he also let himself get screwed, and needs to take responsibility for his purchase

No offense, but you forgot about oil cooling +$1500 and an oil tank and lines +$500, labor +$2k to $5k, does the 912 run the same T-bars, I suspect not? +$500
Wiring harness for 3.2 + $500
Rust repair + $500 to $7500

Just drive it, as is, after having a proper aircooled 911 mechanic thoroughly check it out and service it. Leave college with as little debt as possible.

none taken Doug, forgot about the cooling. I think he were lucky and patient, he could get away with:

used lines + front cooler: $800
oil tank: $150 (I've got 2 I can't get rid of)
new lines: $200 (should look those up)

torsion bars, probably has 19/24s, if not, stock bars are free or close to on Classifieds

I know of 2 3.2s for $5500 that come with the harness and DME, that shouldn't be a problem.

and he's got skilz, this Playa's gonna do all his own wrenching.

But yeah, your last advice is the best, just drive it, but he's gonna have to get a bud vase and subscription to 1-800 FLOWERS.

I would suggest you confront the seller by knocking robustly on the door of his residence and say this to him:

Sir, I am aggrieved by your nonchalant disinterestedness towards a refund.

Thou arrogant earth-vexing promise-breaking rogue!

If you don't get a refund with those $10 words, I would set the car on fire, drive towards his house, jump out the last second and enjoy the ensuing calamity.

It's time to remind ourselves that not everyone is a P-car fan. If someone tells you a car is a 951 and the title says 944 Turbo, do you walk away? Or they tell you it's a 930 and the title says 911 Turbo, do you walk? Face it, all the 9-1-this and 9-1-that is bewildering to newbies. When BMW guys start talking about E32s and Mopar guys with their A-bodies, my eyes glaze over. Fact is, a $5K Porsche is $5K. Unless it's a 924/944, it's a given you're taking a risk. I'd say for that money, a PPI isn't worth it, because you already know there's going to be issues. I'd say Playa got himself a cheap car he can wrench on and learn and make mistakes on, so for his next Porsche, he'll be better off than a guy who memorizes a buyer's guide and goes in with a wad of cash.
