Fixing POS problems.
Like many other poster on this board I have had to deal with Previous Owners Syndrome, even after 13 years of ownership!
My latest problem was a relatively simple to fix. The oil pressure switch started leaking more this winter. I suspect it was seeping for a while. The leak dramatically accelerated in quantity this winter. I decided it was time for a replacement. I noticed a likely cause of the leak. If you look closely at the threads the first few are all mashed up. It was not cross threaded it was bottomed out on bad threads. Fortunately the adapter came out clean and easy with a 17 mm socket. I tightned up the old switch in the adapter and it would get to 15 lb ft of torque but the crush washer was not seated. There was some old teflon tape that I presume helped slow the flow of oil. ![]() I used a 10 x 1.0 tap to clean up the threads on the adapter from the bottom up and everything looked OK. Everything torqued down nice and tight, and it had the solid feel of a proper fit on the new switch. The area had a good solid coating of crud. Overall it only added one hour to time to fix the problem properly. ![]() So what is you favorite (or least favorite) POS problem you have encountered?
