Need to drain trans before removing mechanical tach?

Hi all,

I'm doing my first engine drop today. I was just about to remove the mechanical tach connection at the trans, and it occurred to me that I might need to drain the trans before I removed that.

Can anyone confirm that I do need to drain the trans before removing the mechanical tach connection?

Thanks!

You do not need to drain the trans to remove the tach drive.

Bobby is correct in that you do not need to drain the trans to remove the SPEEDOMETER cable drive

Dooh!

Then again, technically speaking, you don't need to drain the trans when removing the tach drive from the dizzy either.

Doh! Speedo is right. Thanks for interpreting and for the super fast response. I did successfully complete my first 911 engine+trans drop today.

I'll post some pics over on my other rust remediation thread:
