How do I replace the dashboard trim on a 71?
My 71 had been restored at one point and they used a thin wood strip instead of basketweave vinyl for the dash trim. I purchased replacement trim from our host but not sure how to install it. Can't find anything in search. Anyone done this already? Does the metal frame come off or do I have to just glue the strip in place with it attached to the dash.
Here is what's on the car now: ![]()

on mine I took the thin metal plates off (very glued on) with care not to bend them then glued the new vinyl on and reglued in place. Make sure and tuck edges of vinyl around side edges of the plates so it doesn't lift off. Iff the plates were removed when the wood was put in you can probably use the wood, it should be easier to glue than the metal plates. Youll have to carefully take out the trim around the vent controls and take the ignition cover and light switch out.

could you please post a picture of what your panels look like at the edges? Trying to get a reference for how to "wrap around" the side edges. Does it make the side edges stick up?

The trim is glued on, and rapped around the edges about 5mm.
My trim was held on with double sided tape, Pet shows double sided tape used to attach the trim to the dash. That will also save the problem of it wanting to sit up at the edges.
