Old guys in old Porsches usually flash the headlights. As stated above, that was
the time honored tradition of Porsche drivers for decades through the seventies.
Mostly, only older aircoolds flash back.

Likely true. However, there are people out there driving REAL Porsches (356's) who will wave at those of us plastic types driving the plastic cars (996's). I was sitting at a red light in my red 996 a while back and was in the far right lane with my window down. Along my right side, in the bike lane/right turn lane, motors up a guy in a red 356 Speedster (I've seen his car before (and since) and love it). Anyway, the guy looks over at me with a big smile, waves and says to me "hey, I like your car. Nice color too!" I smiled and said "You too! I've seen yours around. Love that car!" He smiled and waved again, and as he left he said "Have a nice drive." I returned the comment and wave and then he was gone.

I usually throw the peace sign as i have received 2 tickets for the flash, but if you flash first i will prob. flash back ticket or no ticket

You got tickets for flashing your lights???? I was gonna say you must live in California, and then I see you and I are both New Yorkers. What's the charge they use to ticket you for flashing your headlights? Obstruction of justice on the assumption that you're warning of a speed trap? Amazing. Where in NY do you live?

In Illinois they ticket for flashing your head light to warn of speed traps. Not sure of the wording of the law but it boils down to only Emergency vehicle can have flashing lights.

yesterday i was on i95 in glum ct when a 997c4s cab zoomed on the on ramp beside me and i scooted up a bit to not get laughed at in my primered monstrousity and sure enough a black 996tt with an exhaust that would give mario andretti a run for the money was next to me , i got and gave the wave to both of the nice fellows whose wheels cost more than my car , now thats porsche love

SmileWavy I always flash my lights to another aircooled 9. sometimes a newer 9 or boxster or cayman will pass before I recognise it as a porsche. there are so many look alike new cars out there.

I stopped doing the headlight flash years ago as it seemed like people didn't get it. So now I'll wave back to anyone, and will wave at any Porsche except the Cayenne! I refuse to accept that Porsche built a station wagon! AAGHHH!

I don't cross pathes too often with other Porsches in MN, and even on my summer road trip to CA I didn't see hardly any. I did get passed by a Boxter in the Tahoe National Forest, and exchanged waves with the passenger who looked like Matt Damon! might have been? I also got passed by a dude in a tricked out VW Rabbit, who gave me the "bull horns", I waved!

Life's too short, I'll wave or say "hi" to anyone, and haven't used the middle finger since high school(unless I know them!)

There's a hierarchy involved here. Salute type 911, 912, 914, 356's that are older than yours. Ignore the others.

Actually Porsche built a much sweeter station wagon than you can imagine. It isn't a Porsche, but an Audi. Google "RS2 avant".
